  1. UPDATE: I took a risk and ordered just the laser. It's a pretty simple replacement. Anyhow, it worked! My burner is back to normal. I wanted people to know that they have an option instead of just buying a new IHAS drive, you can just replace the laser when it starts to fail. Especially since people are saying that the B drives have been discontinued. Thanks everyone for your help.
  2. I just went to the forum where I get my games. Others are reporting that these IHAS drives are starting to fail at about 6 months. Has to be the drive then. Ok i'm ordering a new one. Unfortunately it has to be another IHAS because I use it mainly for xbox 360 games. I'll report back when I get it.
  3. Yes, they are made in singapore. Do you think the drive could be on its last legs so soon? After only 6 months?
  4. Yes, I started getting these errors with another spindle. Then I went out and purchased a new one. These logs are all from the new spindle.
  5. HI lightning. That did not help. I cleared the opc history and disabled online hypertuning. I then opened up imgburn and tried burning a game. It failed from the get go. here is the log: By the way, i did not use a dvd file as I have always burned succesfully straight from the image using the appropriate dvd layer break for the given file. 6. burning xbox 360 games on IHAS drives using the custom firmware on Verbatims has never been recommended. As a matter of fact, I've tried many times with no success. And remember, I've been burning at 4x for 6 months. I haven't changed anything but all of a sudden i'm having to many errors.
  7. This is similar to the post by Aaron96. I have been using this drive for 6 months flawlessly. This week all of a sudden I've having lots of trouble burning my xbox 360 backups. I tried rebooting the pc and that helps sometimes. Even when it does work I usually only get one good burn and then the following ones fail. 10. hi cynthia, not sure what that means. but i did update f/w to 1.02
  11. I ended up buying the Sony Optiarc AD-7240S. This is a good burner bro. I've had it for two days and have been whoring it all day and night LOL. It burns the 2.4x Verbatims at 2.4x and 4x. So it's faster than my pioneer 218L but still slower than the old Pioneer 216d which could burn those discs at 2.4x, 4x, 6x, and 8x. And this is with the latest firmware by the way. But that's ok because I'm waiting for my 8x verbs to come in. They cost a little more but are well worth it. Anyhow this burner looks like a keeper and is top quality. Thank you for the recommendation.
  12. Thanks man I think i will go and get one. I have a tiger direct not too far from me and they carry the Sony Optiarc AD-7240S
  13. Hey guys, I just recently upgraded my old pioneer 216d with a pioneer 218L. This new drive lasted me only 2 months and now it's giving me many i/o errors. Other times it may burn succesfully but later i find that the 360 game doesn't play properly. I found out after i purchased it that these new pioneers are being made with different chipsets. that may explain why it's failing on me after only about 200 burns. Anhow i now need a new burner again. Since pioneers are not what they used to be I want to hear some suggestion as to what may be the best burner out there. I do heavy dual layer burning. It has to be SATA. Any suggestions? By the way I already did all the driver and bios updates so that's not the problem. and yes i'm only using singapore verbatims. the problem is the burner. Hope you guys can tell me about an amazing dl burner that i'm not aware of.
  14. doesn't look like it. it's not listed. damn. I guess i'm stuck having to look for 8x discs. I can't get those locally and i'm in a major city. i'll have to look them up on ebay and be extra careful with teh seller that they are 8x.
  15. Wow. I never thought of that but it makes sense guys. Sure enough the older burner had updated firmware. And right now only 1.0 is avaialbe for this new burner. I should've thought about that before buying it. This is really slow. I'm considering editing the speed like you said Cynthia. Can you give me more details as to how to do it? I don't mind voiding the warranty. the burners don't cost all that much anyway.
  16. Hello, I just replaced my Pioneer DVR-216D with a DVR-218L. Before when I would burn dual layer verbatims it woud show supported write speeds of 2.4, 4, 6, and 8. But now with my new burner only 2.4x is available. I didn't change anything else on my computer but the drive. What could be causing this? I"m using the same high quality Verbatims made in Singapore. I am attaching a log of of each burner. I always like burning at max speed because 2.4x just takes too long. But now it won't go any faster. Please help. 17. I finally got the burner to work again and I'm burning games succesfully. I installed the latest chipset INF drivers. I also updated the BIOS. And I went a step further and opened the drive to clean the laser with a cotton swap and a little alcohol. I'm not sure which of these things did the job or maybe it was a combination of all of them. The only thing that is not back to normal is the average speed. I used to always burn 360 games in an average of 15 minutes. Today only the first 3 games burned at that speed but afterwards all games are burning in about 17 to 18 minutes. Do you think the drive is starting to fail?
  18. you're right. didn't look at that. anyhow i tried the burner on another pc. it burned succesfully but at a slightly slower speed than usual. now i need to figure out the problem. i'm not familiar with all the things that you mentioned earlier. i'll try.
  19. it is set to standard/ide/sata. i'll try it the burner on another pc. i wasn't sure what you meant by "is your filter drivers list clear?" Here is a screenshot of those settings.
  20. I"m not sure what controller. The burner is SATA so i plugged it into on of the available SATA ports. My motherboard is Intel DG45ID. But remember, this is not my first burn. I"ve done hundreds on this burner in this computer. Any clue as to what is happening?

  22. Hi, I've been burning lots of 360 games and all of a sudden since last week I've been getting I/O errors like the ones below. Most of the time the games still burns succesfully, other times it fails. I burn between 20 - 30 games a week and the drive is 4 months old. Is the burner on its last leg? I don't know the life expectenc but i do burn alot. Hopefully that's not the problem and I just need to adjust something on my computer. 23. Dude, i don't have automatic updates set. Whenever I try to do a custom update, where I can pick and choose which updates to accept, it automatically wants to install genuine advantage tool but I cancel it. Anyhow, my original problem is solved. thanks again.
  24. Yes i know but all microsoft updates come with a must-install windows genuine validation tool. The last time i installed that it recognized an illegal copy of windows and i was forced to reformat my C drive. so now i know better not to install any updates. it's a risk i'm willing to take.
