  1. Yup, your drive doesn't like those discs, go with some Verbatim (MCC dye) or Taiyo Yuden ones.

Gee, they seemed likable enough. Serves me right for trying to skimp and get a good deal on leftover discs from a CompUsa that was closing.

Regarding driver upgrades. I went to the Dell site and the latest driver they show there for my Inspiron 1150 laptop is 203E dated 12-22-06. I have upgraded to that, but am wondering about the 424 driver and if I would be doing anything detrimental to my drive if I tried flashing to that one. Any thoughts?

Its A Dell Dude ,they like to put their little fingers in everything that goes into their computers and I believe you have to get your firmware from them but I'm not 100%

trying to flash with the wrong firmware brings up a window warning you that its the wrong one for the drive ,Dell even messes with Power DVD or did and when you look at the version #s they are slightly different to originals or were last I looked

  2. the newest firmware for your PIO is 1.29 updating your firmware is always an excellent starting point when trying to resolve problems so is using top notch media ,here we've seen enough problems with Ritek and Memorex branded media to fill a book .If you want to look at the scans go to that forum

the only discs (dual layer ) that show consistency are the Verbs testing has proved that and all others are hit and miss you may get however many to write fine and an equal number to fail with other media its just the way it is.

Since I began using IMGburn I haven't had a coaster and I use Verbatim both + and - and Taiyo Yuden +R with an NEC 3500 and burn everything at 6X its what works for me and has become automatic with everything verifying 100% .

if you can identify a bug in the software then Lightning will be interested to know what it is and you can be sure it will be fixed pronto

1 other thing what program did you create the ISO with

  3. Ok, thanks for the quick reply. How does this work then? Is it specified for my writer? Do I just download it and it installs itself? No risk of it messing up my writer? As I said I?m quite new at this....
its specifically for your burner .Right click on your burner in the IB window and the last line is 'Firmware Update " take it from there or use Blutach's link .To flash the drive download the firmware for your drive and save it, close out all other programs /windows make sure theres no disc in your drive(s) and open the saved file and there will be a flash tool with it and flash the drive, follow the prompts . Firmware is the software for the drive with all its instructions and support for the various types and brands of media
  4. was editing my post as you posted ,thats great media but can still be a bad disc and also look for new firmware thats the original .

Right click the burner in IB and follow the last line "Firmware Update "

  5. LOL Thanks, what makes it worse is it's on a dvd I have with loads of pocket pc apps/ w mobile5 etc....

    Thanks a lot

is it a dvd you cant find ,I have a few programs I cant find but I know they're around and looking for them made me realize that I have a serious pile of DVD's that need to be in cases

  6. post the log from the burn it has a lot more info we can use . IMGburn saves them automatically just open IB ,Help--->IMGburn Logs . BTW dont post them all just the last one that failed

a couple of things, that firmware is the original you should check for a newer one and also when writing with an external USB drive dont try to burn faster that 8X and of course to good media Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden

  7. I'd say media both the Sonys and TDK have been hit and miss see the drives and media section .I only use Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden discs and have never had any problems burning things for a long time now

the 202c firmware you are running is really old the current is 4.24 you should update it and try again, right click on your burner in the IMGburn window and look at the last line "firmware update" in the menu go from there, make sure you close out any open programs/windows and make sure theres no disc in your drive its easy to flash with the NEC flasher that comes with the firmware download

  8. found this

  9. with the rated speed of the discs its set, say the discs are 8X or 16X its then up to the drives firmeware to have write strategies

that support any given speed .You can have a 16x disc but the drives firmware may not support all speeds ,and you need to set your burn speed to match whats supported

any media you have you can see who the dye manufacturer is by putting a blank in the burner ,there are many "brands " that use the same manufacturer and you're getting the same dye even though you think you have different discs

  10. ohhh....I see, this is very funny,a simple NO Thanks would do it, but no, they had to make fun.Nice way to treat ppl.

P.S. I think it's stupid not to have as many beta testers as you can.Great ideas could come from simple ppl.

dont take it to heart its not an attack on you, just a little carrying on . The members are really testers in their own right ,thats what the Bugs Forum is about not everything gets caught at beta level considering the many configurations ,drives ,etc so the bugs forum is a voice for the members who come across them and there have been many found .Look at it this way its day 1 post 1 for you ,all of us spent a good while answering questions to help people get over errors ,problems going back to the days of DVD decrypter before LUK asked us to become beta testers .With the # of Beta Testers where do you draw the line 10,20,5,000

its strictly up to Lightning who and when hang in there stick around

  11. the discs you're using Prodisc aren't all that great and choosing 16 X wont help the issue, the discs dont support that speed .Even the best discs Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden show a decrease in quality after 12x the scans back that up.The 2 bad out of 4 is common when using inferior media its hit and miss thats why we recommend the Verbs and Yudens they are A1 media .Quality media ,a good drive and burn everything around 8X is what works for me

  12. its a power calibration error ,the drive is unable to set the laser power to burn to those discs so it errors out ,its starting to look like the drive may have seen better days .Do you have access to another burner to try or maybe a friend can run one of the verbs for you

One other thing you can do is get a lens cleaner kit to clean the laser lens it may well be dirty
