Yesterday, I successfully made a copy (on DVD-R)of a commercially-produced dvd I bought. Now, today, I'm running into repeated failures to do the same thing on a couple of other DVDs I bought, and I just don't understand what's going on (I'm sure the resolution is quite simple, but I don't understand enough of the error messages to solve the problem). With the first failed attempt, this is the error-message: I\O Error! Reason: Invalid Field in CDB Questions: What on earth is "Reserve Track"? Where on earth is the CDB?? [i went thro' the top row menu, one by one, looking thro' each of the buttons (including "Tools") looking for "CDB" or anything to do with "Reserve Track", but couldn't find them!] Some other Window came up, showing this, but I didn't know how to respond: Create Layer Break Position This was like a table giving a whole lot of figures. Then, at the bottom, it had a button saying: "Ignore Layer Break Options". I didn't know what else to do but to click this, & it came up with a message saying that IF I did this, the material would not be suitable double-layer burning. [Well, I chose this because both my DVD-burners in my PC are nearly 8 years old and I don't ever recall them being described as having dual-layer burning capabilities]. Did I choose the right response here? When I tried to burn the next DVD, yet again I got this type of error-message: "There doesn't appear to be enough space on the disc to burn this image. Image size: 3,722,208 sectors (7,269 Mb) Disc size: 2,298,496 sectors (4,489 Mb) {Question: Is this the destination disc? If so, I was using a Verbatim 4.7Gb DVD-R} Under the 'Info' tab: Image size: 7,623,081,984 bytes Image Sectors: 3,722,208 Min.Required Media: DVD+ (or -)R DL Free Space: 920,584,192 bytes The calculated space on the "bar graph" showed 89% I just don't understand this: IF the 'bar graph' (relating to space in the destination DVD-R?) showed 89%, why am I running out of space on the destination DVD-R disc? In the first line above, it is stating I need a Double-layer (DL) disc! Isn't this all a contradiction?! Can some PLEASE help me make sense out of all this? OK, Lightnng, thanxx for all that - I will adopt your suggestions. So, there was NO issue with the 4.7 Gb space on the DVD-R disk?

OK, Lightning, I'm attaching that screenshot (in jpg, 78 Kb) again (file name: MyDeviceManager). In case the attachment doesn't work (what could be the cause of that now?), I'll see if I can paste it into the body of my message here: nah, no can do! [The "paste" function is greyed out, except for "paste e-mail"]. I really hope you can open the attachment. With the e-SATA drive connected and the PC recognising it (the PC registers it as my "J" drive in 'MyComputer'), you still reckon the burning software in the PC cannot read the video file from the "J" drive because it is a 'connected' drive? IF that is truly the case, then I can "send" (or "move") the video file from the "J" drive to one of the internal drives (there are 2 - an IDE & SATA) of the PC and do the burning from the there. This this a big movie file and space on any of my PC's h/drives is at a premium. That's why I had this movie file sitting in my external e-SATA drive (my stand-alone back-up drive), and my idea was to delete it (to save space) once I had successfully 'burnt' it onto a DVD disk. I appreciate your expertise, Lightning, and thanxx v.much again for your help.

Gooday & warm greetings from Oz, Lightning! OK, we've solved this website problem. Attached here is the snapshot you want (I have it in jpg format). The 2 "?" (question marks) in yellow: don't bother about them - at least 1 of them (Multimedia Video Controller) relates to a 'Security Digital Camera' card [giving input ports (both video & audio) for external security cameras]I installed at the back of the tower sometime ago, but have not installed the software for it. [i think the "?" entity ('Multimedia Controller' might be connected to it as well]. I still have the "manual" for the card for the e-SATA port(s)installed at the back of my tower. The brief description of this controller card says: Serial ATA: 2 X internal SATA 1.5Gb/s port; 1 x Shared eSATA 1.5Gb/s port (eSATA version); Support RAID 0,1, 0+1, and JBOD modes. And then, ATA 133: 1 x ATA 133 Channel (max. 2 HDD), Support ATA/ATAPI-6. I don't know if all this info is relevant to you. Do you believe my earlier repeated burn failure (just on that 1 project)could be due to this hardware issue, rather than the other possible issue I raised (the available memory on my 4.7Gb DVD-R disk relative to the size of the video file?) [i have to tell you that I have been successfully using DVD Flick, in conjunction with the ImgBurn program to burn other video files (wmv & mpeg-4) onto DVD-R disks that successfully play on my stand-alone DVD player. This is the FIRST time I'm trying to burn onto a DVD-R disk a video which consists of vob, bup, ifo & pls files].

Hello, I'm not sure what's going on here. As I said before, I'm rather new here, and I don't fully understand HOW this Forum works. I posted a topic ""Burn Failure due to I/O device error", and I got 1 reply (from LIGHTNING). He wanted to know some more info, and I have that info, but I am not able to reply. On the page of my Post,on the right hand side at the top & bottom of the page, there is a greyed-out button that says "You cannot reply to this topic". I AM logged in. Can someone explain what I should do? Also, how do I configure my settings here so that everytime I get a reply (to my Post), I can be notified via my e-mail address? Hi everybody, I'm really new to this Forum, and I don't understand a lot about DVD-burning issues. So, I really hope you can "put up" with me & my questions. The ONLY way I'm going to learn is to ask questions & learn from other people who know a lot more than I do. I've been having a very frustrating & difficult time trying to burn onto a VERBATIM DVD-R disk (4.7 Gb) a video I have in an external e-SATA back-up drive (connected to my PC via an e-SATA cable). This video (called "The West Vol.1") consists of vob, bup & ifo files (+ 1 pls file). Just minutes into the attempted burn, an ImgBurn error message came up: "Cannot read from file: J:\Video (The WEST Vol.1)\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB". [in "MyComputer" in my PC, the external e-SATA drive is "J" drive]. And then, it also gives the "Reason: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". My Questions: (a) Could the burn-failure be caused by my Verbatim DVD-R disk not having a larger capacity than 4.7 Gb? In the "Image Information" section of the ImgBurn window, it indicates that the "Total File Size" is 4,680,843,264 bytes. ( Does the "I/O" in the error-message relate to "Input/Output"? Is this related to point (a) above? © Could the problem be caused by trying to burn a video located NOT in my PC but in an external e-SATA drive (connected to my PC)?
