I burnt + verifed an MKM-003-00 dye disc at 2.4x (effective 4x) on a DRW-1814BL FW:1.14 earlier today and it worked fine.

The ImgBurn version is not the problem here. You guys read into things too much.
If there was really an issue with something so common as a simple DL burn, don't you think we'd have found it waaaaay before it was ever an issue for the public release?!
All the program does from start to finish is send data to the drive - there really isn't much to go wrong with that!
I never said his problem was with ImgBurn LUK. I told him I felt it was a media problem.

i didn't know there was a crappy kind of verbatim dl on the market. i get them in bulk so there's no way to check the box but now that you mention it i do notice that on these last disks i got it does say 8x and on my older ones it sais 2.4x
i still have 8x disks and i just downgraded back to 2.4.4 just to check, and i'm now starting to burn the same iso again. will be back with nfo.
If you're purchasing them on a spindle, and the label on the spindle says Verbatim find the bar code on the label. Look to the left of the bar code and you should see an area that tells where the discs were made.
If you're purchasing them and there is no way to verify they are Verbatim, other that on the disc, they could be counterfeit. They could also be counterfeit even if there is a label on the spindle. I haven't heard of Verbatim discs being counterfeited but that doesn't mean no one is doing it.

Any place that sells in 15 or 10 packs singapore
Best Buy sells the 15 disc spindle. The discs are for 8x burning. I doubt you can burn them at 2.4x. I've heard about people having problems with these discs so they might not be from Singapore. I've never bought them so I've never looked to see where they're from.
Newegg sells the 10, 15, 20 and 30 disc spindles made by Verbatim. I know nothing about where any of them were made. Go here to see what they have.
I did purchase a few 20 disc spindles from Newegg several years ago. They were not from Singapore so I shipped them back.

I checked Amazon and a couple of people are getting India ones, same with the other sites. Where can I get 100% Singapore for under 30 dollars for a 20 pack. Or even better yet, 10 or 15 pack.
I purchased DL Verbatim discs from Amazon (20 Pack, 2.4x, Branded) about 2 months ago and they were from Singapore. My local Best Buy always has the Singapore Verbatim but they charge a lot more than Amazon unless you get them while they are on sale.

Welcome to the Imgburn forum Drogy.
The reason your disc(s) cannot be written to at 2.4x because it only supports burning at 4x, 6x and 8x. That is why you got the "Write Speed Miscompare" error.
Your problem with being unable to verify layer 1 is an issue I've not only read about over the last 4 or 5 months but a friend of mine has experienced as well. Get some Verbatims rated for 2.4x burning (it should state on the box that the disc(s) can be burned at 2.4x to 6x). Make sure the discs were made in Singapore (it will say where they were made on the box label, in small letters). You shouldn't have a problem with these.
It appears your burner has the latest firmware so you should be fine here.

Once I put the DVD in my DVD player though it began skipping and then just eventually froze. Why has this happened?To try to help you please provide us with the ImgBurn log.

Successfully burning 1 game only means you've gotten lucky. Look at it this way, you've unsuccessfully burned more than 1 game. That should tell you something. You have probably made more coasters in your few burns than I have made in thousands of burns.
You don't have to take my word if you don't want to but just search around this forum, as well as other forums, and you'll find other knowledgeable people who say the same thing.
Your drive appears to be a Lite-on OEM drive. You could see if there is an update to the firmware for it. If you find an update use it to flash your drive. This won't change the fact that you should use Verbatim discs but you should always try to keep the firmware updated.

Slower is not always the best. It depends on the combination of media and burner.
why is there a 2.4x setting on image burn? is it not actually writing on 2.4x when that is selected or something?
Some discs allow you to burn at 2.4x.
There is a difference of opinion as to whether slower is better but I can tell you from personal experience that I have burned quite a few DL discs (all Verbatim) at 2.4x, and I have never had a bad burn. I also have never had a bad burn on my 52x CD's (also Verbatim) that I have burned at 4x. Add to that the large number of 8x Max DVD5 discs, burned at 4x and the 16x Max discs, burned at 6x (yep, all Verbatim) with only 2 or 3 bad burns (all on the 8x Max discs). You can see, from my experiences, that burning slowly works exceedingly well.

Could it be that i burnt the game at 2.4x speed and not 4x 6x or 8x? i thought the slower u burnt it the better but i didnt see that you need to write at a certian speed for certain dvdr's.
I see several possible problems.
1. You're not setting the Book Type to DVD-ROM
2. The only DL disc you should use is Verbatim (the ones made in Singapore).
3. The discs you are using don't show a 2.4x write speed. You are actually burning at 4x.
While I don't burn any game discs (only movies) I believe that what I've mentioned applies to what you are doing as well as to what I'm doing.

Never had this before. The program works with other dvd movies, just not a certain one. Is there someting with cerain rented dvds? whats wrong?

Because of the jobs I get faxed to me, my business computer is on 24/7 (I do turn the monitor off when I am not using the computer). The computer I built a few years ago is only turned on when I am using it. The longest that one had been on is around 2 days (except when I was stressing it right after I completed building it).
Other than shutdowns for normal maintenance and restarts my business computer has been on for at least the past 7+ years. I do not have it go into standby nor do I have the HD turn off at any time.
I consider myself VERY lucky because I have never had any failure other than the ZIP drive and DVD-ROM drive that came with it.

Okay I have some good news. I updated my firmware on the Dell website and everything works fine now. The Matrix brand DL discs work great and I've already burned 4 back-ups with no problems (in writing or playback). I would definitely recommend this brand, especially since a 25 pack only costs about $25. I have one more question though. Is the "verify" option neccessary? What exactly does this do? I'm going to be backing up a lot of DVDs these next few days and eliminating this "verification" process would almost cut the burning time in half.
I cannot believe that after what everyone here as told you, you think that the discs you are using are good. Just because you have been lucky and had good burns does not mean the discs will be any good next year (or even tomorrow). None of us are telling you to get Verbatim discs because we own the company. We're telling you because of all of the knowledge we've gained over the years through use and testing of the discs.
You have to do as you see fit. Just don't say we didn't warn you.

just went to best buy online. they have their verbatim 20 pack 8x dvd+r dual layer dvd on sale for 29.99 best deal i've seen around. about 1.50 per dvd.
just wanted to pass it on to you guys.
That's a good price for them but if you go here you will find them for $27.99.
I've purchased from Micro Center several times and I've never had a problem.

I reauthored the two DVD 5 (to say the truth, they actually are the two sides of a DVD-10) selecting just the main title from both of them (about 83min and 79min respectively). According to Shrink the compression value is 100% for both titles, so I figure the project should perfectly fit into a Dual Layer.
Output the project as DVD files structure (as LIGHTNING UK! suggested) , open it with ImgBurn in Build mode, press the calculator icon and....
"Unable to find any cells that could be used for the layer break!

What is the problem? What I'm going through if I'll answer "yes"?
Am I so silly if I say that the only logical location for the Layer Break should be placed just in between the two original DVDs titles...?
If you answer yes you will probably see the DVD freeze when it comes to the layer break.
It's more complicated than placing the layer break between the two titles. You must make sure that there isn't less data written on layer 1 then there is on layer 0.
I have a question for you. Since dual layer Verbatim discs (You are using Verbatim media, aren't you? If not, you should be.) are quite a bit more expensive than single layer discs (you can buy 4 single layer Verbs for the cost of 1 dual layer Verb) and DVD's don't take up much space to begin with, why do you want to combine titles? It would seem to me you are causing yourself a lot of work and spending more money for no good reason other than saving a little space.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you not to do it. All I am saying is I don't see any good reason for it, but that's just my opinion.
