depends, you have made a few coasters and said you were onto your last disc and if you were trying to fit too much onto disc and accepted the warning and it was far too much for the media, your disc would be wasted, This would still apply if you created ISO first though and then went to burn it and accepted warning but at least you could see Size in a more calm manner, slow and steady instead of impulse. I like to create ISO first but then i keep the ISO a few weeks. Not much difference otherwise.

Its not that bad a suggestion , Why tell him to go and get other software . I use both software and it would be one less app on my PC if ImgBurn could create audio cd's with the build mode. When someone suggested creating a DVD with .vob files it was done , and nobody said go and "try something else" This is the suggestion forum after all. @ piovrauz , i second your suggestion.

I got this message when attempting to burn to DVD+R DL. I'm trying to back up one of my dvd's. I used AnyDVD+CloneDVD2 to create the .iso and created the .mds using DVD Decrypter. This was my first attempt using ImgBurn. I have been using DVD Decrypter to make my DVD9 backups without any problems. I was just curious as to why I'm getting this error.

i am trying to create iso files of some dvd's i burnt a long time ago with nero. img burn seems to be outputing a iso file that has a sector size of 2448. anybody know what is going on? imgburn wants to convert them to 2048 but that makes them unreadable in a player.

I have a similar Problem like you. It's not a DVD it's a CD but the Errormessage ist the same. I even tried another Drive and Computer but it did not change a thing. I'll double check the ISO-Creation now since it's located within the ISO not the burn-process. I've been creating a SP2 Slipstream XP CD with it's own bootloader (xpboot.bin / computerbase [de]) but I have no Nero so I choosed CD BurnerXP Pro 3 to create the ISO. Maybe I need to burn a CD first and then create the ISO of it. Is there a freeware/opensource ISO Creator someone can recommend? --hakre BTW ImgBurn really does a great Job!

Are you trying to burn something other than an iso image using "write" mode? If so, try using build mode to create an image either to hard drive or on the fly to the disc. Write mode only supports writing image files. [edit] I thought for once I would be able to answer one of these first.... I guess I need to type fast around here!

each time i had to cut the power..so no log..Im now trying: create a ISO containing a RAR file of the 8 .iso files...then Il burn it using IB..an see if that makes any difference

Yay, the magic phrase was finally uttered, PIO. I got that clue early on, when someone mentioned that the CPU usage spikes when the buffer dies. PIO = using CPU to move data around, at very slow speeds. Normally this data-movement is done by the controller. At any rate, Windows hit its infamous problem of decreasing maximum transfer rate, for no apparent reason, without being able to restore the maximum speed via any user interface. Oh, how I love Windows. It tends to create threads this long for such problems. (I'm high as a kite right now so... pardon my rambling. XD) Run this... then go back to device manager, set to PIO mode, then back to DMA. Bam, on the fly, you'll be set to UDMA mode once again, and your burning problems will be no more. FixDMA.reg It tells Windows to quit limiting your disk drives... it writes to the most common location for the ATA controller settings, so it should work. Wonder why this thread went dead before the solution was found though?

hello, I am all new to this program.I was trying to burn a DVD which I have on my drive (DVD FabDecrypter) and as I always used Nero before I now wanted to try out ImgBurn. You have two guides here for that so I followed the guide according to:Burning DVD Video files directly to double layer media with ImgBurn.Everething was illustrated very nice and get nearly to the end when in the last step I get the message:Burnthread runtime exception!Message=EAccess Violation and I can`t continue. I have a LG Drive which can burn Dual Layer media and I?m using Verbatim DL-Media as recommendet. The only thing I didn?t understand was: Normally you shouldn't worry about ticking the 'Don't update IFO/BUP files' box, and you should definintely not tick it unless you have prepared IFO's in advance containing layer break info. I didn?t tick that.What is exactly the problem?Should I create first an ISO-File with ImgBurn as described in the other guides? The basic idea is to add a "Create ISO" menu item when right clicking on a CD drive. The feature would function in two ways Right Click - Opens ImgBurn in read mode - Sets the name to the disks label name Right Click + Drag and drop - Opens ImgBurn in read mode - Sets the name to the disks label name - Sets the path to the folder the user let go on - Starts the ISO creation process I think this would be a great time saver in the same way that the context menus for WinZip and 7-Zip do something similar for extracting or creating archives.

OK. Back to a standard El Tortito boot disk with a 2.44MB DOS boot image (.img) containing all the good DOS files and the remainder of the CD containing lots of other good stuff. So I create the .IMG file and point ImgBurn at it for the: Advanced | Bootable Disc | Boot Image at that .IMG file. I leave: Advanced | Dates | Volume Dates empty as it was when I found it. I leave: Advanced | Dates | Folder/File Dates radio button "Use File Date & Time" selected as it was when I found it. I compile my El Torito bootable disk ISO file and hey presto! (hey li chee? any Rupert fans out there?). All is fine and everything works. However, for no reason that I can tell, if I then break the .IMG file back out of the ISO, it and its associated BootCatalog.cat file both have a date 31 years ahead. Actually, not EXACTLY 31 years. Latest example I have is: IMG File Created: Today, April 02, 2007, 10:34:51 IMG File Modified: Same as "Created" IMG/CAT File from ISO Created: Monday, January 18, 2038, 22:14:08 IMG/CAT File from ISO Modified: Same as "Created" If I did something wrong, I can't think what. If not, although somewhat erudite, "it's a bug and it undermines the security of the software which will deter people from depending on it for anything important" (well, I'm quoting someone who made a lot of money out of good software but I can't remember who and I aint gonna look it up! lol). No panic cos the average user wouldn't know how to find it, but if it's as easily fixable as it is repeatable, I'm sure it will get done sometime. (Note that ImgBurn creates the BootCatalog.cat which is new to me as I always had to provide it before and now it won't accept it if I include it in the same directory as the IMG file so the error is probably only in the IMG file stamp unless in creating the CAT file, it copies its stamp back to the IMG file which would be a trifle odd.) (As far as I have so far checked, all the other file date/timestamps match the original files used for the build.)

Yeah - that's El Torito for ya! lol El Torito sticks the contents of the Boot Image (in this case 2.88MB) in as A:. Can't see them in the directory structure of the CD - it's an IMG file you insert and it can only be seen with an ISO buster like ISOBUSTER and the files in it - DOS boot and DOS utility files - can only be seen if you then break the IMG out - ALL of which I do in XP or Vista but right now in XP as I am still tinkering with tests in Vista before any prod machines use it). It disables the "swap diskette" drive (normally B:) and uses that for a FDD (if you have one). No idea what you mean. I'm not messing with a real floppy. I keep a diskette on one box on the LAN for those odd times when it's needed (normally to aim at it without a diskette in it when testing some software tricks which need a physical FDD to do some things even without a diskette). It SHOULD be able to read ISO9660 and Joliet but not UDF. I did my learnin' burnin' years ago with Roxio, then Adaptec (both yucky). Then when I started making bootable CDs, slipstreamed OSs and now boot USB sticks based on El Torito, I almost exclusively used Nero Burning ROM. Trouble is that I just got the OEM bundle of it and it doesn't HAVE Burning ROM - only Nero Express without the ability to make bootable CDs (did Nero forget why they became successful? lol) and I'd have to shell out even more money for the Vista version of Nero. Now with multi-boot partitions on all the boxes with Vista, XP, 98SE, DOS and Linux, getting one piece of software which will work on XP or Vista and create CDs for all the partitions means I am testing several burning programs. ImgBurn looks like it's ahead of the pack but it has some odd quirks and if this one isn't my mistake, I probably have to move on. Shame - it's a darned nice piece of software WHICH TELLS YOU WHAT IT IS DOING which is getting rare these days with the "we think for you idiots cos you don't understand our software" mentality lol Wow! Not sure why you would want to do that! I only throw these old systems on the boxes so that software which CLAIMS to be able to run on old OSs actually can for reporting to others about them. Also because there really is some software which has never been replaced successfully but which has not been upgraded to work in new OSs. Good luck going back past Win98SE though! Actually I am trying another version of the burn (I'm up to 4 so far in ImgBurn which is less than the other programs needed to get this far, but they are keeping other boxes busy lol!) I read the guides... although it only says for 'build' mode about using the TS Video folder. I was using build mode to actually create the image file, so I do need that process. I am not creating an image file from DVD, I have a downloaded avi file that I wanted to burn. WHen I use the build mode to create an iso file, when I burn it it turns it into a video clip, which must be why it will play in windows media and not WinDVD. Am I able to use just this one program to create and burn from an avi file... or do I have to continue using another program to encode it so I am able to then burn it with ImgBurn (which I havent had any problems with doing it this way... its just ImgBurn doesnt seem to work with downloaded movies). I cant give you the log as I had already closed it, and after wasting 6 DVDs already (which are very expensive in our country) I am not going to bother doing it again unless I think I have a chance of it working, lol. Using nero (and I don't want to use anymore that elephant!!!), in the option panel you can find a check box that says "create short lead-in/out" and a comment that says that in this way you gain some MB (I don't remember now, but around 15 MB). I'm using this feature since some months (Nero 6.1.15) and it works: you can burn CDs with ~715 MB of data inside instead of ~702. Since I would like to use your nice SW from now on (I discovered it yesterday evening!) would be great to have also this nice feature...

Ive just stepped up from DVD decrypter to this software. I was trying to create an image file and burn a movie I have downloaded. I used the build feature, which put an ISO & MDS file on my desktop. I burned the image file, and it will open and play in windows media player, but will not play in my DVD player or even Intervideo WinDVD. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong and why it will not work... im not all that literate with the software, or burning for that matter... so please explain to me in english THankyou so very much for your time and help

I recently downloaded ImgBurn (2.3.0.0) and am trying to burn DVD's. Used DVD Shrink to create dvd ISO image on and internal HDD and then trying to use ImgBurn to burn it to DVD+R media (FujiFilm 8X) 3 times in a row I have encountered an error. First time it was at 41% complete and second time at 38% complete. Thinking there may be an issue with the image, I created another ISO image of another content and tried to burn it to DVD. This time I got this error at 81% complete. During burning, I have noticed, once it reaches the point where it gets stuck, the remaining time starts showing 'unknown'. It is in that state for a long time (like > 1 hr or so) before the timeout message is received. Initially when the burn starts, it shows the expected burn time to be in the neighbourhood of 35 mins. I have gone thru the forum listing on similar issue. I do have an external HDD in an usb enclosure but it is not being used. I do have Nero installed on my computer. I have previously burned DVD's with 1ClikcDVD and some with Nero on the same system. I did noitice my secondary channel is on PIO only (I have an internal HDD and a DVDRW, DVDROM ==? DVDRW prb. on secondary channel). I will change that to use DMA (as recommended) and try again. In "Build" mode it burns whatever files you give it straight to disc (using "device output"). Optionally, it can create an ISO from those files, if that's what you want ("image file output"). There are other programs that will burn audio CDs, so go ahead an get rid of Nero now (I have never, ever had it installed.) Jim

mmalves: I never bothered experimenting much with the technology. I just know that if this divx ultra file is put in any other format other than UDF it won't play in my Phillips 5990 Divx Ultra Player. I can play a .divx ultra file in the VLC Software Media Player, but I can only watch the first track that is on the disc. I hope someone can develop a software player that can access and extract what is inside the .Divx DMF that TDA outputs. That is about all that bothers me about this technology. Sometimes a person needs to extract a scene or two from the DVD's they create and in this format, you can't do that, to my knowledge.

I recently bought a program called Tmpgenc DVD Author 3 and it has the ability to take my mpeg2 files that typically I would be using to create a standard DVD Disc, or I can use it to squeeze about 5 and half hours of footage on the same disc in the Divx Ultra format. With a standalone Divx Ultra Player, I can play these discs. When the program finishes authorizing these files it gives them a .divx extension and then I use ImagBurn to build an ISO image in the UDF format and then use ImagBurn to write this iso to a blank dvd r and then go through the verify process. My suggestion is that "like when ImgBurn finds that the files I am trying to make an ISO of have a video ts and audio ts folder it sends a pop up that recommends I change to ISO 9960/UDF, can the program sense that this is suppose to be a UDF format disc. If one burns a "Divx Ultra" disc in ISO 9960/UDF mode it will not play in a standalone Divx Ultra Player. It must be burned in the UDF file format. Since the majority of the time thus far I authorize my Mpeg2 files to the standard DVD format, I have forgot on one occasion to switch to the UDF format to build the .divx file to an ISO image. Is there some way to program such a thing into a future version of ImgBurn?

Well... yes you are. Of course I do not want to burn the ISO on the DVD. I want to create a DVD from the ISO that recedes inside a rar-archive. So to what I want in details: 1. I backup my DVD to an ISO-file on disk just as normal. 2. I archive the recently created DVD-iso in a multi-file rar-archive. 3. Later I want to burn a DVD from the ISO that I previously made. (or some may say received in a some other way, what do I know? ) 4. I want to do that using ImgBurn without first un-raring the image to disk, I just let ImgBurn find the ISO inside the rar-archive and burn a DVD using the ISO as source on the fly. I just want to keep my rared ISO's and the player i XBMC (XBOX MediaCenter) can play the rar:ed ISO. Still thinks this would be an awsome feature! /F

Hi, I'm a donating (not so much... )user of ImgBurn and i love it! There is only one feature I'm missing: a improved build mode with folder and file view, like the one in Nero Express: a window where I can use drag and drop, create new folder, view the files contained in the folders and so on (...see attachment). Actually in build mode you can only add folders and nothing more... What do you think?
