Hi all,

I've recently downloaded imgburn but discovered problems when trying to write an .iso file to disk.

I've been trying to write the CD both on a LG DVD-ROM DRD8160B ATA and PLEXTOR DVDR PX-716A ATA devices, and both are failing, but with different messages.

When I verify against the LG device, it just states the Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)

I'm using the same CD disks for both drives, but only states this error on the LG device.

When I verify against the PLEXTOR drive this passes and states it's ready, but when trying to write to disk it just sticks at the Writing LeadIn stage, I've left this for over an hour but still no joy, and no error either.

Here is the log:

Try burning at 16x, 8x, or even 4x, and see if it works.

By the way, your LG drive is just a reader, it can't burn anything

I've tried again on those speeds you specified, they all encounter the same problem, in that the update just stalls on the Writing Leading part.

Any other recommendations?

I notice on other posts that different disks could be tried so I'll attempt that also once I get some, but if I could try any other configuration first

Thanks

When it gets stuck, can you cancel the burn in ImgBurn? Does the computer work OK when the burn is stuck? Also please post your Filter Driver Load Order (look in the Tools menu).

When I try and cancel through image burn, it appears not to work, I then try again and it tells me to be patient so it has taken the first request.

however, the cancel never completes and the only way for me to cancel the program is to kill the process under task manager.

The PC does continue to function during this process.

You can delete the GEARAspiWDM entrie. It looks as some left over from iTunes.

If you delete it, restart your computer afterwards.

Hi, and thanks for the replies so far.

I removed the entry GEARAspiWDM and rebooted as recommended, and tried again writing at x4 speed, but still getting the exact same problems, not getting past the Writing Leading stage.

You can't get ImgBurn to cancel because it's not in control.

It's submitted a command to your drive and it then has to wait for it to succeed / fail.

What type of discs are you using? My Plextors have always worked best with CD's using the Taiyo Yuden dye.

I gave up using anything else a long time ago.

Can you burn DVD's ok?

It's an old set of 100 CD tub I had lying around, they have no brand markings on either the CD or tub unfortunately.

The only info I have is from imgburn telling me they are CD-R (Disc ID: 97m26s66f) (Speeds: 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 48x)

I've tried at all these speeds unsuccessfully.

I've just also tried writing the ISO to a RiDisc DVD+R disc, but also failed at the same stage.

I do have a pack of 5 Verbatim DL DVD+R disks, but didn't want to waste them by trying, unless you feel these should work.

I will also look to purchase some Taiyo Yuden CD's too as you stated.

Typically I recently gave my other PC away, so will need to purchase an adapter to try it on my laptop.

I did however find a pack of TDK DVD+RW disks (basically Philips-041-00 disks that are compatable according to plextor website)

I got further with these, I managed to format the disk and get to 81% complete so it maybe the media after all and not the drive (jury still out on that).

Here is the log with the TDK disks, I don't know why it stalled at this stage:

I 17:31:55 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started!

I've just had my new PIO-216D drive delivered along with Taiyo Yuden disks and Verbatim's.

I've tried the new disks with my Plextor drive, still failing at teh Writing LeadIn stage.

I've since tried my new and old disks in my new drive and they work fine.

So it turned out to be a Plextor drive issue, and it's outside it's warrenty so probably not worth having it RMA'd.

Thanks for you help all, much appreciated.
