I am new to this forum because I have used ImgBurn successfully in the past and not had problems. I am also technologically challenged.!

My Roxio program gave me problems copying several (noncommercial) DVDs so I tried ImgBurn, burning one successfully to an ISO file. When I tried writing it, however, I got this message:

I 21:08:39 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: SONY16D1)

I 21:08:39 Destination Media Sectors: 2,297,888

I 21:08:39 Write Mode: DVD

I 21:08:39 Write Type: DAO

I 21:08:39 Write Speed: 4x

I 21:08:39 Link Size: Auto

I 21:08:39 Test Mode: No

I 21:08:39 OPC: No

I 21:08:39 BURN-Proof: Enabled

E 21:08:41 Failed to Reserve Track! - Reason: Cannot Format Medium - Unsupported Medium Write Speed

E 21:08:43 Operation Failed! - Duration: 00:00:04

I 21:08:43 Average Write Rate: N/A - Maximum Write Rate: N/A

What does the error message mean and is there anything I can do to make it work? Thanks,

Does this help? It's a different DVD. Since I as unable to burn four different DVDs with three Roxio programs, is it possible there is something wrong with the DVD hardware? Thanks for your help.

First of all, please update ImgBurn. Also update your burner's firmware (remove any disc from the drive and close the tray before updating then reboot the computer after the update is done).

If that doesn't solve your problem, you can try with better media such as Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden blanks (preferably the 8x ones) or you may want to get a new burner to replace your current one :)

I tried to get only the firmware flasher out of that package but it's a dead end (they really made an effort in making it almost impossible) :(

As for "media dye", it's the material used to make the most important part of the disc: the thin film where data is written by the burner and later read by any reader drive/device (read here about it).
