Avinitlarge Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 (edited) Hi I made a backup of my original Sat nav disc, I created the ISO file then used Img Burn to burn it to a disc, The Disc was a Verbatim DVD-R. It all seemed to go well untill the end, I got the following messages. The Disc didnt work in my nav Drive Either I 12:00:10 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started!I 12:00:10 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)I 12:00:10 Total Physical Memory: 2,620,908 KB - Available: 1,629,692 KBI 12:00:10 Initialising SPTI...I 12:00:10 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 12:00:23 Found 1 CD-RW, 1 DVD-ROM, 1 DVD Edited June 14, 2009 by Avinitlarge
dontasciime Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 If you have any chance of backing up those type of disc's as in the past people have had trouble .. You should be at least using DVD+R DL(Verbatim MKM-001-00) as you can set the layerbreak on those and indeed on any DVD +R DL (you cannot specify where on - R DL)
Avinitlarge Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 I am pretty new to burning DL. Any Recommendations on burning this software apart from the disc's I use, Settings etc?? TIA
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 This isn't a settings issue, it's a disc issue. Buy the right discs and your drive might actually then burn a working copy.
Avinitlarge Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 (edited) Thats fine then. Ive not got any good disc's left. Ive just burned the data to a cheapy unbranded DVD+R DL disc. My nav drive read it and it nearly worked ok. I recon, If I get a Verbatim DVD+R DL, It would work fine. Thanks the help Edited June 14, 2009 by Avinitlarge
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Just make sure they really are DVD+R DL this time and not DVD-R DL again
Avinitlarge Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 (edited) Just make sure they really are DVD+R DL this time and not DVD-R DL again Okey Doke. I read into burning one of these disc last year, It said to use DVD-R DL. Ive cost me about Edited June 14, 2009 by Avinitlarge
mmalves Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 2.4x or 4x are likely to give the best burn quality. You can use DVDInfoPro/Ner0 DiscSpeed/etc to check the burn quality with your burner.

dontasciime Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 clean lens and try 8x I prefer Verbatim MKM-001-00 2.4x as opposed to the 8x MKM-003-00 ones you have. Make sure your firmware on writer is latest which I pretty sure it is so try cleaning the lens and burning at the rated 8x speed. Maybe the controller the writer is on and the driver is responsible. If using nforce chipset eg and you installed the nvidia ide storage driver, take it out via windows device manager removing controller letting windows assign its own standard controller and If using Jmicron controller update drivers etc.
Avinitlarge Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 Ive cleaned the laser, It was spotless to start with though. The chipset is North Bridge SiS 748. dontasciime Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 has the drive ever managed to burn anything on dvd + r DL ?
dontasciime Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Please stop as I can offer no more advise without feeling guitly you are wasting disc's when I am maybe missing the obvious. controller issues if the same computer was used the drives just look like they cannot write
Avinitlarge Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 My liteon drive has burned loads of cheap DL's without any errors. Im gonna try it on 8X speed in a sec
Avinitlarge Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 you already tried @ 8x though That was with the Liton drive, This time I tried it with the NEC drive. It still gave me a coaster. Tried the NEC drive in the computer it came from, Another coaster. I give up
Avinitlarge Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks for the reply, Its not that, I think its a problem with the drives. I ordered a Pioneer DVR-115D yesterday. I decided not to give up, Ive got 4 Verbs left. If i cant burn it with the New drive before the 4 discs run out, Then I truely give up By the way, Is the drive Ive bought any good???
dontasciime Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 It's not a bad drive pioneer 116 - 117 are out now and even 118
Avinitlarge Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 My new drive came today, It was a Pioneer DVR-116D that came and not a Pioneer DVR-115D like I ordered. Anyway, The disc burned fine with no problems at all. It verified upto 100% without any problems. I ran Nero DiscSpeed and it it didnt support the drive. I tried the Trial Version of DVDInfoPro, I dont really understand whet it all means but, The results are as follows I 15:36:20 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started!I 15:36:20 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)I 15:36:20 Total Physical Memory: 2,620,908 KB - Available: 1,944,316 KBI 15:36:20 Initialising SPTI...I 15:36:20 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 15:36:21 Found 1 DVD-ROM, 1 DVD
Cynthia Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 There is a later firmware for that new burner. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Pioneer/DVR-116D/files.html Pioneers are not well suited for scanning purpose.
Avinitlarge Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Ah right, The Pioneer is the only drive I have that will read DL, My other DVD drive is for backing up Wii games
