Greetings all,

This is my 1st post. For the past 3+ years I've been a proud user of ImgBurn & have had no problems ever...until now. I burned 2 backups last night that ran perfect, business as usual, but then today I get this:

I 20:18:19 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started!

I 20:18:19 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)

I 20:18:19 Total Physical Memory: 3,669,484 KB - Available: 2,983,052 KB

I 20:18:19 Initialising SPTI...

I 20:18:19 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 20:18:21 Found 2 DVD-ROMs and 1 DVD

This is a problem with the drive connection normally. Try a new cable (as short as possible).

Any ideas on make of controller the drive is connected to? (or perhaps what motherboard you have?)

You could also try the DMA post in the FAQ.

Thanx for the reply & suggestions. Its funny that you mentioned trying a new cable. I had to replace another sata cable for one of my secondary hard drive earlier today. I may have bumped or nudged the one for my burner loose at the port while I was in there.

My motherboard is a Biostar TForce 550SE. 4 sata ports...so 2 controllers right? I'm not sure on their make tho.

Ok. I updated the chipset drivers, the m/b bios, & checked the sata cable connections & bam...same error.

Then I tried swapping a couple of the sata ports & ended up with these combos:

Controller 1 - Main hdd (port 0), DVD-ROM drive (port 1)

Controller 2 - DVD Burner (port 0), 2nd hdd (port 1)

And all seems to be well & I'm burning successfully again.

Question - as far as performance is concerned, should I have the hdd's paired & the DVD drives paired, instead of what I'm running now? Or does it matter?

For SATA it doesn't matter, as each device has their own dedicated cable to communicate with the controller
