Failed to Read Sector xxxxxx - Reason: Unknown (CRC or ECC Error)

Hi, I am desperate for a solution to my problem. I have searched google and this forum with no luck.

I am attempting to back up my ps2 game that I own by using ImgBurn, however when it gets to the verifying part I get an error message.

I am using Verbatim DvD-r 's and a relatively new HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (its a laptop). I have tried reading/writing at slower speeds (MAX, 8x, and 5x) with no luck.

Anything that you can suggest I can try would be much appreciated.

If HP haven't got any firmware updates for the drive you'll just have to try different media (assuming the drive is clean - if in doubt, clean it with a cleaning disc).

Get some Taiyo Yuden discs instead - TYG02 dye if possible.

Thanks for the response Lightning UK.

I found a solution to my problem yay :)

Although I had previously tried slower read/write speeds (MAX, 8x, and 5x), I did not notice the following line in the log

I 19:53:13 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: MCC 03RG20) (Speeds: 4x, 8x)

So I read and wrote the image at 4x speed and, although it took a bit longer, the verification process completed successfully!

Thanks again.

I'm glad it worked but it should really work fine at 8x too. That is 16x media after all.

You might even find it fails at 4x now and then too - suggesting an underlying issue with 'MCC 03RG20' media.
