The drive is just crapping out again.

You're going to have to find the MKM-001-00 2.4x discs or buy a new burner.

Have you tried running a cleaning disc in the drive at all? If not, that might be worth a go too.

later i'm buying some of these 2x

ehm no. i really don't know how to do it. can u tell me the steps for cleaning the drive?

sorry im a real noob eheh

understood eheh. so if i try with the 2,4x cd, is better if i burn at 2x speed or at 2,4x?

well....and if i have to buy i new drive, can u suggest me a cheap external (usb) drive good for burning xbox 360 games?

thanks a lot once again :D

You have to look at what ImgBurn lists for the 'Supported Write Speeds' in the disc info text on the right.

The drive will only ever burn at one of those, regardless of what you tell ImgBurn to set it to.

i.e. if the drive only lists 2.4x, setting it to 8x won't make it burn at 8x, it'll still burn at 2.4x.

If multiple 'supported write speeds' are listed, you might have to burn a disc at each speed and see which one works the best.

Take a look at some of the drive hardware forums over at cdfreaks.com

They have lots of threads talking about burn quality on various discs with various drive models.

Seriously, v2.1.0.0?!

Where do you live... under a rock?

But hey, at least you have XP SP3 on.

Try this firmware update...

http://www.firmwarehq.com/Philips/SDVD8441/files.html

Chances are you'll need to find some MKM-001-00 dye discs instead though or buy a new drive that supports the 8x MKM-003-00 ones you already have.

sorry to spam but i downloaded latest firmware from here for my drive but it crashed during install and now the drive wont work.. any ideas on how to fix it please?
