Cynthia
The Verbatims you tried with - were they rated 2.4x or 8x? If it was the later one you got - try to get your hands on the "older" 2.4x rated ones. Not sure it will help. Any warranty left on the burner? If so - send it back. Another option might be to get an external USB burner and forget about the slim line burner.

Are you still using the cheapo ricoh dye based discs? http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000 no sir im using verbatim 8x ..so i tried burning at slowest speed possible and unckecked the verify box and for some reason thats the only way to get a successfull disk. is it fine if i leave it like that or do i have to verify? mmalves
The Verify is what actually confirms if it was a good burn or not: data on the disc is compared against the source image, and if there's a mismatch/read error it means the disc is bad. Without the Verify you don't know if data on the whole disc is good or not.

LIGHTNING UK!
Having that Verify option ticked makes no difference to the burning process. You need to look elsewhere for the cause of the problem. Please just post some logs so we can see exactly what you see and what you're talking about.
