Every time I try a burn on a dual layer disc, I get a 30 to 50% burn and a I/O Error. I've tried different programs and different brands of discs, but still no go. WTF!? What do I need to do?

Try burning at 4x. Also try cleaning the burner's lens with a cotton bud and some alcohol, or using one of those lens cleaning disc kits. If you still get this problem then you should start looking for a new (non-slim external) burner.
