DL DVD+R Problems

Hi guys, first time poster, long time lurker.

I've been having some issues burning DL discs lately. In the past I've normally had success. I hadn't used ImgBurn in over a year (or longer) so I updated to version 2.5.0.0 before I did anything. I still had some problems burning. Since I was using Fuji 2.4x DL DVD+R discs, I read on here that they were not reliable, so I bought Verbatim 2.4x DL DVD+R discs (made in Singapore). I also updated the firmware on my Sony DRU - 700A drive.

Last night, I went to burn my ISO image and here's the log that I woke up to (all the retry attempts were me):

I 03:59:22 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started!

I 03:59:22 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)

I 03:59:22 Total Physical Memory: 1,048,044 KB - Available: 607,152 KB

W 03:59:22 Drive J:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size.

W 03:59:22 SPTD can have a detrimental effect on drive performance.

I 03:59:23 Initialising SPTI...

I 03:59:23 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 03:59:24 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 2 DVD

I 05:43:23 Average Write Rate: 1,337 KB/s (1.0x) - Maximum Write Rate: 3,568 KB/s (2.6x)

Do what this post from the FAQ says (removing IDE controllers/etc) and try again.

You might also want to look for the latest drivers for your motherboard's chipset or storage controller (use SIW to find out their brand/model).

I uninstalled/re-installed the IDE controllers and the burn appeared to work fine. Only problem was the disc won't play in my car (Acura TL). I've burned other discs before that played in the TL. Any ideas? Does this log look ok?

I 21:25:05 Source Media Type: DVD+R DL (Book Type: DVD+R DL) (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x)

Well, the issue could be a few things: the source image is bad, the disc wasn't booktyped to DVD-ROM or your burner, which is quite old, didn't do a good enough job at burning that disc.

Is there another burner you could use to burn this disc? If there is then tell us its brand and model (you can copy the information from ImgBurn's window if you prefer).

That's a DVD-Audio disc, right? If it is, could you try playing it on other DVD-Audio capable devices?

I "found" I can play DVD-Audio discs using my soundcard's DVD-Audio player. I never knew I had that! I was always burning DVD-A for my car. Anyway, yes, the disc DID burn fine. It's the Verbatims! They don't work in my car's DVD-A player. So much for the perfect media. They don't make DL DVD-R discs do they? I find the DVD-R discs are best in the car. Thanks for your help with this matter. I'll keep you posted on what I do next.

If it can play a movie off a DVD+R DL then it's probably just the format of that DVD Audio disc that it doesn't like.

For the booktype stuff you might need to add your drive to the 'Advanced' section in the booktype feature. It's really a liteon drive so add it under that type.
