new to this program tried to burn dvd

the files i used to build the dvd were avi, i noticed it didnt transcode or convert the files first, so i wont be suprised if thats where my problem is, can anyone explain how to fix this

No, ImgBurn just burns the files as they are. You need first to use a program like http://www.dvdflick.net/ to convert the .avi to compliant DVD Movie files if you want to play the files on a regular DVD player.
