Book Type Error

I am new to this, so sorry if this is a really dumb question. My drive is an HP DVD Writer 840b ED56. I found something that said the OEM is LG, but when selecting this book type the current setting field says:

Unknown (FAILED!)

Reason: Invalid Command Operation Code

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you see SCSI or RAID in the log? Like this example

I 15:06:27 Destination Device: [6:0:0] PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-216D 1.09 (H:) (SCSI)

It's a re badged LG GSA-4166B, so if the commands fails for LG the first words in post #2 is the issue.

It seems it's possible to flash it to a "genuine" LG - but the warranty will be gone and also the drive might be harmed.

Another option is to replace it with another drive.

The log you posted from the TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-T633A drive shows that it was book typed to DVD-ROM.
