I am running software on a laptop and have not experienced problems with discs I am using it could be that the drive needs cleaning but I suspect that there is a driver issue if thats possible. Drive reads DVDs and CDs and also will burn a image to CDR and write files to DVDR and CDR.Dont want to sound like a know it all but the only logical answer would be optical drive is dirty but as I say does not seem a prob with CD.I wondered if it could be software related. The fact your drive only lists 2.4x as a supported write speed would suggest its support for them is very minimal or non existent. You can't expect to get a decent burn on them - period.
