Tray Cycling Issue

Recommended Posts

My DVD drive has started displaying a new behaviour. It may or may not be related to Win7. I did install the release candidiate recently, but I can't be sure if the drive has ever worked correctly since then or not.

When I burn an image, it burns fine, but when the tray cycles, prior to verification, the drive believes that the tray is still open, although it has cycled open/closed normally. Manually cycling the tray has no effect. When I abort the process, the disc invariably ends up having been properly burned and I have no further problems.

Unfortunately, I'm not at home currently to post the make/model/firmware of the drive, but if anyone here believes that it might be pertinent, I can post that info.

I think it may be time for a new drive.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

We always need/want the log info.

Does it actually pop up a box saying you need to close the tray?

When it gets to stage where it's waiting for the drive to become 'Ready' after cycling the tray, keep an eye on the status bar in the main window. Even if you have to eject + reinsert the tray a few times yourself, the message in that bar should change. Make notes on what it says when first reinsert it, and what it eventually settles on.

Thanks for the reply Lightning.

I'll post the log as soon as I have the chance.

There is actually a pop-up requesting the tray to be closed (I believe it mentions certain laptop drives sometimes needing manual intervention).

Here's the log. It looks like it might be a media issue. Maybe I should try different discs.

Once had a Pioneer that showed the same behaviour. It couldn't recognize the disc after it was burnt.

You have the latest firmware. Might want to update ImgBurn to the latest version. I doubt that will help for your issue.

Looks more as it's time for a new shiny drive.

The really strange thing is that the disc is perfectly usable. Again, I think media may be an issue. I bought these discs since my external drive has LightScribe. Over the next couple of days, I'll pick up some quality blanks and try again.
