UtNut Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Having read about this I just wanted to make absolutely sure my trusted Plextor PX-760A is ready for that place in heaven where all broken down burners go to. After literally thousands of perfect burns (of course Verbatims using IMGBurn) it started to give this error message on an average of one out of ten but seldom at the beginning of a burning session of 10 to 20 burns, hence my question, and if I change the Verbatim it usually likes it. Sliding in the one it didn't like after a while sometimes works as well. Think my options are: 1) Buy a new burner (advice welcome on what's the best atm, notch, notch..) 2) Burner gets overheated (can't really tell in Asus probe) 3) Almighty Verbatim is not faultless. 4) Anything else I'm missing (I've tried cleaning it) Can't really add a meaningful log file, luckily the error message occurs before burning starts. Thanks for any help Utter Nutter
cornholio7 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 from personal experience, though few verbatims have failed, both my plextor 760's are dead. have you tried a cleaning disc on the drive?
UtNut Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 from personal experience, though few verbatims have failed, both my plextor 760's are dead. have you tried a cleaning disc on the drive? Yep, tried that with one of those cleaning disks with small brushes at the bottom, not sure if that worked, obviously hard to tell. Or perhaps there's a better way of cleaning it?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Take it apart and use a cotton bud dumbbell thingy on it (carefully!) with some sort of cleaning fluid/alcohol. Chances are that it's just dead though.
UtNut Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks. Will do as suggested, I've got 97% Ethyl (shame I didn't taste it myself yet, but they keep saying it's not good for ye!) Any chance of a pointer in the right direction regarding a new burner, thinking perhaps an external. Don't burn as much as I used too, prices of external hard drives are now cheaper than DL media of reputation, eg 50 films is 60 Euro on DL Verbatim or 400 GB on a a 1TB external hard disk costing 70 Euro. Now where that's tiny little screwdriver? Thanks again Utter Nutter
