Hello everyone,

Today I tried burning a movie(.MDS) with dvd decrypter(which i just uninstalled) and it didn't work, so I tried burning with Imgburn which also didn't work. Now after having 3 failures with my Verbatim DVD+R's I wanna know why it's actually screwing up the burn process. I also tried burning with some DVD+RW's and failed but I don't got logs of those and I only got the log of my last burn with Imgburn and here it is, I hope someone can find the problem for me.

Thanks in advance

What sort of machine did that drive come in (what make) ?

MCC-004-00 is 16x media and your drive is only listing 4x as a supported write speed - that would suggest a drive/firmware issue.

It came with my Acer brand PC, I also tought it was weird that the write speed was only 4x whereas the media is 16x.

I can burn ps2 ISO's fine though.

The stuff you're burning doesn't even come into it.

If you can burn one thing onto those DVD's, you can burn something else onto them.

The only issue here would be due to the flaky (or so it would seem) firmware support for that MID/dye.

If you don't mind possibly killing the drive, you could crossflash it to a GSA-4166B: I've did that to mine and it's much better ;)

Posted

So my only options are either to crossflash it or get new firmware?

I found this firmware for my drive but one is for dell computers while the other is for HP computers. And since I got Acer wouldn't this screw up my computer? Or should I just try one of them and see how it goes?

It doesn't work, it says "Not detected target drive"

And when I click ok a new window comes up where I can choose my drive and there's also a big square with "OPEN" written in it and when I click it, it says "Model mismatched".

I already did that but it just gives me some topics about some guys wanting to go back to 4164 instead of 4166, I couldn't find any exact tutorials on how to upgrade the drive. That's why I asked if someone had a link for a tutorial. I really hope someone can help me with this drive, cuz now I can't even burn my movies with it :(.

Thanks in advance

I tried the LG HL-DT-ST GWA-4164B firmware 1.10 from the dangerous brothers website but now it won't read any DVDs at all (several DVD+R, DVD-RW discs is what I tried). Now I am really screwed :S.

Try flashing it again, perhaps with the latest official firmware.

I believe it's 1.I0 (that an uppercase 'i', not a '1' !) and that's only for drives in HP/Compaq machines.

You might have killed it now anyway so just try the 4166 firmware from that page (if such a thing exists).

If nothing works, you'd best start looking for a new drive.

I tried the HP firmware and burned it on a CD but it wouldn't start up as I expected. I also tried the GSA 4166 firmware but it told me "model mismatched". I also tried going back to my old (1.05) firmware, so I downloaded it, but it also didn't work since it was a lower version than the firmware I have.

Is there no other way to revert back to firmware 1.05? I tried system restore to before I installed the 1.10 firmware from tdb site, but also.....didn't work :S.

The weird thing is that the drive only doesn't recognize empty DVD+-R(W). It does read already burnt dvds.

well nvm the drive is fucked up, do you have any suggestions for a new drive? I don't need those fancy HD, Blu ray burners since I won't be burning that type of DVDs in a LONG time :P. I just need a good burner that can burn movies, ps2 games and DVD in general well and it's firmware should update at least once a year and not like my gwa 4164B which the latest firmware update is from 3 years ago. Anybody any suggestions?

Thanks for your suggestion, this type of drives seems to fit me. The only problem is, it can't booktype? Cuz I didn't see any support for booktyping DVD+R. Do you have any experience with this? Can the drive booktype my DVD+R to DVD-ROM? So I can play the DVDs on my home DVD player(not my computers DVD player), since DVD-ROM seems to be more compatible with DVD players.

Thanks in advance

Look on the motherbord if you have an available connection like those two black ones or the red one (Can be any colour)

Thanks for your answer gonna check it right now :D. The only problem with the 240series is that it can't booktype DVD+R to DVD-ROM, else it would be perfect for me.

Do you or anyone else have any other suggestions for some other drives?
