CliffyG Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Hello I've just started trying to burn xbox 360 games and am having a some problems. I keep getting: Writing LeadIn... Potential 'ReadBufferCapacity' Deferred Error - Write Error Followed by a load of errors. This is info about the drive and media: Destination Device: [0:1:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B A103 (G:) (ATA) Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-003-00) (Speeds: 4x) I now have 3 coasters out of my 5 test pack, i tried at 4 and 8 speed. After reading the sticky it appears that me buying the 8x verbatims may have been a mistake. Is there an issue with my writer not being able to use the 8x dvd's? How do i find out if i can get better firmware for it? Thanks. Edited November 12, 2009 by CliffyG
mmalves Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I 19:17:38 Destination Device: [0:1:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B A103 (G:) (ATA) Update your burner's firmware (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished) and try again with a brand new blank disc.
CliffyG Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Well after some more digging i have found the firmware update and applied it and uninstalled the stpd driver thingy. Just tried to do another one at 4 speed and it said: W 20:43:16 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 5,540 KB/s (4x), Got: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x) It does appear to be burning ok now though which is a big improvement! Hopefuly in 30 mins time i shall be playing.
CliffyG Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 It worked! Quick question though, im burning another game and got the following again: W 21:42:58 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 5,540 KB/s (4x), Got: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x) Should i be worried about this?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 That depends on which 'supported' speeds are actually listed in the disc info panel on the right.
CliffyG Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Well 2 games are working now so i assume its ok. Thanks anyway .
CliffyG Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) It appears my assumption was wrong . I bought a new 10 pack of Verbatims from the same place i used before but i've now wasted another 3 discs. After what looks like a succesful write i end up with the following during the verify: W 23:06:45 Failed to Read Sector 1913760 - Reason: Unrecovered Read Error W 23:07:46 Retrying (1)... W 23:07:48 Retry Failed - Reason: Unrecovered Read Error W 23:07:49 Retrying (2)... W 23:07:52 Retry Failed - Reason: Unrecovered Read Error W 23:07:53 Failed to Read Sector 1913760 - Reason: Unrecovered Read Error W 23:07:55 Failed to Read Sector 1913761 - Reason: Unrecovered Read Error When i said to ignore the errors it carried on but there are hundreds. Is something wrong with the DVD's maybe? Edited November 16, 2009 by CliffyG
mmalves Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 That burner is quite old now and I'm not sure it has good support for the 8x Verbatim blanks. Have you thought about getting a new burner? It's probably cheaper than a spindle of Verbatim blanks, and being new it should have good support for the 8x blanks.
CliffyG Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 I did consider a new one, do you have any recommendations?
CliffyG Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 (edited) How about a GH22NS40? I can get one for about £18 with free delivery. EDIT Scratch that, read that these are pretty good: Sony Optiarc AD-7240S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM and costs the same too. Worth going for? Edited November 17, 2009 by CliffyG
mmalves Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 That Optiarc AD-7240S is a very good burner. Another option would be the latest model by Pioneer. You do have a SATA port available, right?
