Mich_v_g Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Ok, been searching for hours looking for the answer, nearly in tears with frustration. I have burned many discs wiht imgburn (love it) but now i have a serious issue. I put in the blank disc, burn the iso no problem, i have a slot drive that i have to manually push back in the disc before verifying so i do that every time. Now comes the problem.... It won't acknowledge that the disc is there! no matter how many times i take it out and put it in again. Even if i cancell the process and go directly to verify it won't acknowlege the disc is there. It just says "device not ready (medium not present)". So my question is why does it read the blanks and not the burned? It just sticks at "waiting for device to become ready". Everything else in the log is normal. Please help.
Mich_v_g Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 The burn log is the same as a normal burn. I dont have the computer with me right now. But the first half of the burn (before verify) goes as any normal burn does. The discs work too even though they will not be acknowledged when i try to verify.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 We'll wait until you have the computer with you.

Mich_v_g Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Okay. So there is the log. As far as I can see everything during the burn went fine. It is just when it is time to verify that it won't read the disc. After a while of "device not ready (medium not present)" i get frustrated and cancel the verify stage. The discs still play though. One other question.... seems my computer really is throwing a temper tantrum.... why do i get "waiting for buffers to recover"? see this log (totally different day, but it also just did it again) I 14:43:49 Operation Started! Mich_v_g Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Forgot to add one thing... When i open imgburn lately and go into "write image to disc", i select the file to burn, but it takes a good 30 - 45 seconds for it to show up where it says source. While it is frozen like this i can't do any thing but wait?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 DMA issues are probably to blame for the buffer issues and slow loading of the 'Source' image. Read the FAQ. As for the drive not being able to initialise the disc after it's burnt it... have you tried with some decent media? Try Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs instead. Burn at 8x.
Mich_v_g Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 I can't seem to find the dma info in the FAQ. But I googled it and found this http://forum.lgsoftwareinnovations.com/showthread.php?t=12650 is that right?? Does it really matter if i verify the disc? I burn at 5x, but it usually only gets 4x. Why the higher speed if i get different discs? I've been useing the same discs for the past 6 months at least. The computer is only a year old, if that.
mmalves Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 It's the 2nd post from the FAQ thread, and 5x isn't an available speed so the drive has been using 4x (look at the Supported Write Speeds in the information text).
Mich_v_g Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Okay. I THINK i have tried to do that before, but couldn't for some reason. I will try again in a while and let you know. Currently it is burning a disc with no problem at all, so I won't mess around with it.
mmalves Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I 14:43:49 Destination Device: [1:0:0] Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5600S 108B (E:) (ATA) Also update your burner's firmware to 10AB (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished).
Mich_v_g Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Okay, i'm back. I have updated the firmware, and TRIED to check the DMA but that isn't working? Still having the "waiting for buffers to recover" messages. How to I get a screen shot of what i see when i try to do the DMA stuff?

LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Are you saying you're unable to find the 'controller' entries to remove in order to reset DMA? You get a screenshot by pressing the 'print screen' key on your keyboard. Then 'paste' into something like Paint. (or use a proper program like snagit to get your screenshots) Alt + print screen will allow you to just capture the active window.
Mich_v_g Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 sigh... well that doesn't seem to be working? Perhapy my print screen key isn't active or something. Anyway... I'll describe what i see in the device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers IDE Channel IDE Channel IDE Channel IDE Channel Intel® ICH9M/M-E Family 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 2929 Rocoh Memory Stick Controller Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller That is what i see. I'm running Vista (icky!!!) On your FAQ page there is a little icon that gets pointed to, and I dont see that. I have icons for back, forward, show/hide console tree, properties, help, sohw/hide action pane, scan for hardware changes, update driver software, uninstall. These are all buttons at the top of the screen. When i click on the first IDE Channel that is listed, and go to Advanced settings i see Supported devises 1 and then under devices "target id: 0, device type: ATA Disk, Current mode: PIO mode 4" There is an area that says device properties, and shows and unchecked box that says "enable DMA" but this is gray and doesn't give me the option to click it. Any other way to click that ?
mmalves Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Install this, reboot when asked, then try looking at the DMA setting again (it should be enabled already).
Mich_v_g Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Okay i've done that, and it looks like to took away all four IDE channels and just left me with the rest? Correctly done? I'm burning a disc right now to see what happens. usually after i reboot i can get one disc no problem but the second is when it starts to fight me! fingers crossed though that it works now. You guys are the bestest!
Mich_v_g Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 So far so good. Third burn now and no problems! Might I ask what exactly that link installed?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 It installed an updated driver for your controller. You need that if you're running the controller in AHCI or RAID mode - which you are. When in IDE mode, the normal Intel INF Chipset package is sufficient. (wouldn't hurt for you to put that on either)
Mich_v_g Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 I think i'll just smile, knodd and say thanks.... cuz i have no idea what that all means. So far, still working. Might you have any idea what makes vista so hidiously slow? On occasion it takes a good 10 - 20 seconds to respond to me clicking anything?
Mich_v_g Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Sigh... here we go again. it was working fine for the past few days after i installed whatever you told me to, but alas we're back to "waiting for buffers to recover" stage again! help.....
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 What 'average' speed does the disc end up burning at (according to the log) ? Are you using the drive for anything else when you burn? Downloading, virus scanning, defragging etc?
Mich_v_g Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 4x is the speed it burns. burning from an iso. I don't believe i'm doing anything else while burning. If i am, it's not knowingly. Is there a way to find out what exactly is running on that drive at the time? I have xoftspy and connected to a wireless network. Shall I close both of these? Would that help?
