Recorded disc doesn't play

I've got a Plextor PX-310SA and a Pextor PX-B940SA installed on my computer. I'm using Maxtor BD-R discs (single layer). I followed all the instructions @ http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=9512 to burn a disc. The entire copy process went perfectly, even the verify portion. The disc was finalized and ejected. Putting the copied disc in either the 310-SA or the 940SA drive and using Power DVD8 as a player produced nothing but a Play or Resume message. Pressing play brought me back to the same screen. I then tried to play the copied disc in my Panasonic DMP-BD1A player and got nothing but a Reading message on the screen. Checking out the disc in Explorer it appears to be a duplicate of the master with AACS BDMD and CERTIFICATE listed.

Any idea about what went wrong?

The log being produced during the burning process had nothing unusual noted. What confuses me is that the disc produced by my writer is an exact copy of the original as I compared every entry side by side in Windows Explorer (even the movie files are the same @20.2 Gigs). I've since made a data disc using the same procedure and both drives are able to read the disc.

It seems that nobody wants to touch this problem with a ten-foot pole since I presented it. So, here we go again, hoping that someone will have some ideas . . .

You don't need to make a new thread, just bump your previous one that's still awaiting an answer.

 

As such, I've merged your two threads.

 

Now then... it's not about 'not touching it with a ten-foot pole', it's just that so few people burn BD that there's nobody here to offer you anything constructive.

 

The disc burnt and verified ok so it should at least play on the PC - that is of course assuming the content is all present and correct (we have no control over that).

 

It's not 100% clear but it seems as if you're saying the disc you've just burnt has an AACS folder on it? Only copy protected discs would have that folder and yours can't possibly have any. My guess is that's your problem right there.

You don't need to use other burning software, ImgBurn can burn BD stuff just fine (that's why 3rd party BD related tools like BD Rebuilder, ClownBD, MutliAVCHD etc all link to it)... you just need to sort out your source files properly.

All I can say is that if your source includes an AACS folder then you're doing something wrong. You'd only have one of those if you're burning copy protected material - and as that's impossible without having the correct hardware and license (not to mention knowledge!), your current method of creating the 'source' files must be flawed.

In your article, "Burning Blu-ray Discs Using Imgburn", I followed the instructions precisely. What I ended up with is an exact copy of the disc I was copying, including the AACS file. What is this article supposed to be about? Neither the title nor the text that follows says anything about not being able to burn a copywrite-protected disc. So, I took it to mean that I could make a copy of my copywrite-protected disc. Is your reply some sort of clever way of informing me that I should not try to copy a copy-writed disc? I'm not trying to be rude here, 'just asking for clarification.

ImgBurn is not able to copy protected discs, nor it is claims it will. It's your problem how you make your source files. ImgBurn will write to disc anything you feed it in that form, no transcoding or modify anything. So what you put in is what you get out.

I guess you were pointing build mode at your BD-ROM drive (with a commercial and therefore copy protected disc in it) as the source and your BD-RE drive as the destination?

 

As you now know, that's just not ever going to work. The copy protection on the disc prevents people doing exactly that.

 

If you attempt to read said disc in Read mode, you'd get a nice error telling you that you can't make an image of a copy protected disc - it won't work.

 

I haven't ever bothered to attempt to detect and prevent people doing what you tried to do via Build mode.

OK. Fine. Now I FINALLY got an answer. But I'm wondering just how many hundreds of $6 BD-R coasters were produced by people who thought they could make exact copies of the BDs they bought. You may want to make the fact blaringly obvious that your software WILL NOT make a workable copy of a commercial disc because that's certainly not the impression that I got (especially after having read your instruction essay that gives no indication that this is the case).

And I guess the reason I thought that Imgburn would make a copy is because 1-Click DVD Copy plus DVD 43 can do just that with standard DVD, commercial movies.

For those interested who've been following this exchange, 1-Click DVD Copy will be coming out with a Blu-ray version sometime next year.

Making an 'exact' copy would be done via Read and Write modes (not Build mode)... and like I said, trying to read an AACS protected BD disc in Read mode will make the program pop up a message saying it's not possible.

 

A little more research into BD discs on your part and you would have avoided your $6 coasters.
