Have you tried all of the 'supported' write speeds? All I can suggest is that you look for driver updates for your motherboard chipset and whatever controller the drive is attached to. If it won't burn Verbatims at any of the speeds it says it supports and cleaning the drive doesn't help then the drive is pretty useless. As I said before, the OS shouldn't make *ANY* difference... and if it did, all you can do is update the drivers - which has also aready been mentioned. I'm never prepared to believe there's a difference between OS's until someone shows me a significant number of sequential failures with one OS and a significant number of sequential success with the other OS. Of course both must be using identical hardware, software and media. Drivers for that can be found here: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_Vista_Win7/ Your other SATA controller doesn't even appear to have a proper driver loaded for it, either that or it's just a really cheap board with cheap parts - not something I'd expect in a HP machine.
