LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 The OS shouldn't make any difference, I'm talking to and returning error codes reported by the drive. Have you tried all of the 'supported' write speeds? All I can suggest is that you look for driver updates for your motherboard chipset and whatever controller the drive is attached to. Bios updates for the motherboard could also help.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 If you have an Intel chipset based board you should get your drivers direct from Intel. You'd only need the Intel INF Chipset one and potentially the Intel Matrix Storage Manager too. http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/ http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I've checked it but I'm not sure what you want me to say?! The drive is just crapping out in the middle of the DL burn. If it won't burn Verbatims at any of the speeds it says it supports and cleaning the drive doesn't help then the drive is pretty useless. As I said before, the OS shouldn't make *ANY* difference... and if it did, all you can do is update the drivers - which has also aready been mentioned. I'm never prepared to believe there's a difference between OS's until someone shows me a significant number of sequential failures with one OS and a significant number of sequential success with the other OS. Of course both must be using identical hardware, software and media. And all that info must be captured within a small time frame (i.e. 1 day)
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 So is your drive on the JMicron controller? Drivers for that can be found here: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_Vista_Win7/ Your other SATA controller doesn't even appear to have a proper driver loaded for it, either that or it's just a really cheap board with cheap parts - not something I'd expect in a HP machine. What's the actual model number of the PC?
Sado0og Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 i guess i'm not having luck with win7 i should downgrade to vista but if my driver is crap and useless why it burned fully DVD DLs in vista successfully without any error
Cynthia Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Perhaps it came preinstalled with the right drivers. When you installed Win 7 you used the default Microsofts. Why not first try the suggested drivers?
