Zenith Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, i have recently started burning xbox 360 games using my laptop (HP dv1299ea), the burner is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20L and verbatim dvd+r dl discs I am burning downloaded games, but only half the games i download actually burn to disc and work, i dont think its the files themselves which is the problem rather something else. Im hesitant to try the same files multiple times as the dics are pretty expensive! the games that dont burn properly get an error message right at the start of burning (before 1%) but still seems to render the disc useless log file from last unsuccessful burn: I 11:58:19 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! Zenith Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) Sounds as your burner doesn't like the media code on those discs. Have you tried the other speeds - 4x, 6x? i thought that burning at a lower speed would give it a higher chance of being sucessful?? edit - just tried burning one at 4x and got a different error message: I 11:21:22 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Ok so basically the drive is just failing to burn DL discs in general?! If cleaning it doesn't work, get yourself a new one. Slimline drives are usually pretty rubbish so get a full size external.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Not sure I'd ever really trust a 2nd hand drive to be honest... but maybe that's just me. You'd be better off with a proper enclosure. That cable provides no way of actually powering the burner.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 They should be universal, you'll just have to get one with the right interface. i.e. if you buy an IDE drive you'll need one that's USB/eSATA to IDE. If you buy an SATA drive you'll need one that's USB/eSATA to SATA. Should be pretty obvious really New drives are about £20 so don't go crazy on the eBay bids for 2nd hand ones!

Because the drive in my laptop supposedly burns DL discs but half the time it doesnt work!! mmalves Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I'd get an Optiarc AD-7240S and a nice cheap external enclosure that has SATA interface inside

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Ask for the actual model number of the drive - or at least what it shows up as in device manager/burning software.
