RonD2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) I have searched for topics that might help, but none describe my problem. No matter what software I use I always get the error message - Windows cannot complete the format. I have an HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH20N ATA drive with the latest firmware - C106/A05 and am using Memorex BD-re discs. Microsoft provide no solution. Dell tell me it is a software problem but will not tell me the solution. HELP. Error has occured under both Vista and Windows 7. Error produced immediately format starts. mmalves Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Why don't you try a Full Erase using ImgBurn for instance and post the log of the operation as per the pink banner at the top of this forum? This is ImgBurn Support after all...
RonD2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) Why don't you try a Full Erase using ImgBurn for instance and post the log of the operation as per the pink banner at the top of this forum? This is ImgBurn Support after all... If that is the view taken, I might as well give up now. As stated the problem occurs with all software I try not just ImgBurn. So I guess it is not really an ImgBurn issue. I was just hoping some kind soul might be able to help me. I think it is a problem between Windows (Vista and 7) and the driver/firmware. mmalves Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 If we had the ImgBurn's log showing the actual error reported by the drive then we could say what's the most likely reason of the problem.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Try with a Verbatim BD-RE. Your drive might just not like the 'IMATN-E_2-01' dye that your Memorex one uses.
RonD2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 Thanks for that. The Memorex disc will become the most expensive coaster I've ever bought!
mmalves Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 If you can't return/exchange it then try selling it or keep for future use since it's your current burner that doesn't support it, but doesn't mean it won't work with other burners
