lluberest Posted January 25, 2010 Share Posted January 25, 2010 Hello everybody, I've already wasted 5 verbatim double layer dvds trying to burn a dvd movie. Using the "Build mode", so transfering files from folder to disc. It seems to me that there's some problem between the burning device and the disc, since it all starts well, but goes on error at about 50 or 60% of the process, so when starting to write on the second layer. Discs are verbatim x8, but I've tried using x4, x2 and x1 speeds. The only difference is that, the higher the speed, the earlier I got the error... My burning media is an ASUS DRW-2014L1T, not yet two years old. It works quite well, despite it never sounded as sure of itself as my old LG... I've updated the firmware but the error persists. The first part is done without problem. But then it failed again when trying to burn, but this time it gave me the "Power calibration area error". Selecting anything below 4x is pointless, the drive will still burn at 4x. Likewise, attempt anything above 8x and it'll still burn at 8x. So now you just need to try 6x and 8x properly. Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc. Try a disc from a different spindle (still 8x Verbatims). Try the 2.4x speed Verbatims if you can find/buy them (MKM-001-00 dye). So after x4 and x8 failed, I preferred not to waste another dvd trying x6, it seemed quite obvious that it would end the same way. I haven't seen the 2,4x verbatims around, only the ones I have, or TDKs... Anyway, I guess I'll try with a cleaning disc and see if it makes any difference.
