GPZ4189 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Hello and thanks for any help - my first post I have been using Imgburn for quite a while with great success. Recently, I made some updates on my 5 year old computer and added a faster Lite-on SATA drive model iHAS322. Everything worked well and I used Imgburn with no problems for a couple of weeks. I decided to go a step further and added a new larger SATA hard drive to replace an old SATA smaller Hard drive (used as backup drive only not my sytem drive) and did a clean reinstall of Windows XP Home on the system drive. Everything went fine and I added all my programs back on. The only issue I had was burning DVD's. Not only in Imgburn, but I tried to burn something in Nero 6 and also received errors! My old Plextor 708A IDE drive still worked just fine. I took the SATA drive back and they gave me a new one, which came up with the same errors.(I will post a log) I changed out the new SATA drive with a new Lite-on IDE and everything works again. Any ideas why the SATA DVD drive wouldn't burn DVD's. This was my first SATA DVD drive and I didn't see any jumpers to change for master/slave. I was only using Verbatim DVD+R and DVD-R media that I have had great success with. I was wasting good disks and then tried older junk, but nothing would burn. The only programs I added or changed after the clean install was AVG anti-virus 9 and VLC-Media Player 1.0.5 both updated. Thanks for any help, I'm always trying to learn and I feel like I just gave in and got older IDE technology. Log: I 22:44:35 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! Cynthia Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 You have the latest chip set drivers for the motherboard installed?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Use/get a decent cable too. I find the Akasa ones pretty good and you can find them on ebay. The shorter the better - assuming it fits of course You can also try following the DMA post in the FAQ.

I had not updated my mb chipset, which is NVIDIA nForce 4, and sure enough through MSI Liveupdate4 it stated they needed to be updated. I do recall some time back doing this, and had not done it since the clean install. I'm a little out of practice with my computer skills. Well, I updated them and unfortunately have the IDE drive now and not the SATA to check if that made the difference. I just know the drive worked before the clean install of Windows XP. I wasn't sure if it was hardware related or software. Sounds like hardware from the responses I received. Thanks again - Great people on the Forum! GPZ4189
