So, I'm following along in the guide about burning onto a DL DVD, and I'm at the step where you pick your layer break position, where the guide says "The coloured stars will give you an idea of the best place (technically speaking) for the layer break position..." But none of the stars in my list are colored! Does this mean I do not need a layer break in my DVD? I would assume so, seeing as the content to be burned is over 5GB. If so, pick one that is around 50/50 and where the switch is natural (pre play it and find the best layer break). But, any within the 50/50 specification should be pretty good? What about padding? Is a higher or lower number better to pick from? And how exactly do I confirm my choice of layer break? If the layer break is in the DVD Video part (inside of the VOB files) - it's a grey star rating. Padding low or high? Theoretically a high number of padding sectors should take the laser head longer time to jump over. In practice I can't say I've seen that happen. Do the adjustments I do within the preview window have any effect on where the layer break is? Or do I not have that much control here? The guide says "Within the preview window, Cell 1 is what would play just BEFORE the layer transition, Cell 2 is what would be played straight AFTER it. You can use the < and > buttons to 'step' through the movie frame by frame. Alternatively, just drag the slider!" That makes it sound as if changing the numbers in the little cell box would specify where the break will be. Is this so? As it is, the lowest cell number I can navigate to among the options given is 10... not 1 or 2. Can you explain this? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Posted February 25, 2010 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Padding is before the VIDEO_TS files even start, it makes no difference to the time it takes for the laser to switch between L0 and L1. You should be using the Preview feature to find the best cell - i.e. where you wouldn't notice the jump so much - like at a scene change. (making it seamless makes this null and void) When asking a question like this, it helps if we can see what you're seeing... so please provide a screenshot. So I just need to choose whichever cell I prefer from the choices given, yes? Like, I can't choose myself a specific FRAME where I want the break to occur by using the preview window. Correct? In the video area, you can only select cells as the layer break divider with ImgBurn. If you want a specific frame you need to split the current cell into two cells and the frame you want to use as layer break is to be the split point. But, to my point, using JUST ImgBurn, you can't adjust the exact frame of the layer break in the preview window, correct? You can just pick from the choices your given. And what exactly do the %'s mean? Is that just the amount of material that will be on either layer of the disc? How important is it for me to pick one of the 50/50% ones? Thanks! So your only options for the layer break is the star rated rows. 50/50 or a/b a=50% on layer 0 b=50% on layer 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
