Sewer Waste Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Well, as I've read and heard I pretty much understand getting the Verbatim 2.4x 8.5G DL discs are much worth it. I bought a 25-pack of memorex before I realized how true this statement is. But Since I have about 18 memorex DL discs left, is there anything I could try before moving to the Verbatim discs? I have no intent to use these discs for any other reason at this particular moment then to backup one of my xbox 360 games. I would go spend the extra $10 for some Verbatim discs that will definately work, but I want to make sure this will atleast make sure it burns right. Without further ado, here is my log: I 20:47:11 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started!I 20:47:11 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (6.0, Build 6002 : Service Pack 2) I 20:47:11 Total Physical Memory: 2,094,300 KB - Available: 1,015,500 KB W 20:47:11 Drive L:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. Would be well appreciated. Also, if I have a bad iso file, would it prevent me from burning it? Or would it just prevent me from ingame (on the xbox) errors? I am more concerned about being able to burn this, once I can get it burned I will worry about getting it to work on the 360.
Cynthia Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 There is a later firmware version, that might give you success. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Lite-On/DH-16W1S/files.html Perhaps also give the 4x and 8x speeds a try. ImgBurn doesn't care what's in the ISO file as long as it's a legitimate/standard ISO and yours seems ok. It's just that your burner doesn't seem to like that media code very much.
Sewer Waste Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) Thanks Cynthia, just downloaded the new firmware for my drive. Hopefully that will fix. I'll have to try tomorrow night, getting late and a force restart of my computer. Will update after I try again tomorrow night. EDIT: What do you mean by "my burner doesn't seem to like that media code very much?" You mean like the firmware version? Edited March 4, 2010 by Sewer Waste
Cynthia Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Yes, as you are getting a write error, it seems that the support for that media code (Disc ID: MBIPG101-R10-65) is not so good in your firmware/burner. It's also a bit "not so usual" media code so it might not have been implemented very good in the firmware.

You said Disc ID which leads me to think now you are talking about my memorex DL DVD+R 8.5G disc.
Cynthia Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 The Memorex DL discs you used (and posted a log about) is using a dye named MDIPG101-R10-65. What's on the package Sony/Memorex/Verbatim//Fuji/Kodak/Acme is not very interesting for the burner. It's the dye/disc id that the firmware identifies the disc by and uses the programmed writing stratgy ( the stuff in the firmware) for. Verbatim DL discs have a different dye, such as MKM-003-00.
Sewer Waste Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 After downloading the firmware you provided the burn got farther then it did previously, still didn't work. Due to the computer I burn on being occupied by someone other then me, I can't post a log since its not on my computer. Probably going to give up and have my friend burn it for me on his month old windows 7 labtop. Hopefully his dvd drive will be more up to date and not have any problems.

eSkRo Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Try 6x and 8x. Have you tried a lens cleaning disc on that burner? I second that!
Sewer Waste Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 I've tried 8x 6x 4x and 2.4x and no succcess yet. Gone through 11 memorex DVD+R DL discs... Think I'm done trying. Where would I get a lens cleaner disc at? Or how would I create one?
eSkRo Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Look at any electronic stores or even at Wal-MArt... but, the only Dual-Layer DVD's i trust are VERBATIM 2.4x DVD+R DL [MKM-001-00]
Sewer Waste Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 It still burns normal single layered memorex discs, but not DL discs. That wouldn't be a cause of the drive not being clean, would it?
