I/O Error

Good Morning.

I've tried a few different discs and write speeds but I'm getting the same burn failure in every instance.

I'm considering swapping this LG drive with a Samsung from another computer- It's a painful process that I'd prefer to avoid, but will do if necessary.

Any help interpreting this would be greatly appreciated.

Update your burner's firmware. Try doing a Full Erase on that disc. Also try burning at MAX write speed. If all that doesn't help then get better quality CD-RW media or use CD-R instead, which are much more reliable.

Thank you for the rapid Response, mmalves.

I have downloaded the firmware update from the link you were kind enough to provide (and for which I thank you), but I have not yet installed it or continued to try getting Image Burn to work. During the period of time between my original post and when I read your response, I have been successful in burning a couple ISOs with another program. In fact, one of the ISOs I've succeeded in burning was to DVD, using the LG drive and discs from the same manufacturer I was previously using.

From the success I've had, I'm inclined to believe the problem I was having prior to my post was not related to an issue with my optical drive or the medium I was using. I think it would be safe to say that the problem is with the Image Burn program.

Still, I may go ahead and install the firmware update v2.0, hope it doesn't wreck a drive that is (seemingly) working correctly, and continue to get Image Burn to work as it should. If this is what I end up doing, I will return with my results, positive or negative.

Thank you, again, for your time and effort to respond to my trouble.

Oh, and incidentally, the program I successfully used to create the the ISOs I made today is an old (2004) item which was recently updated to add DVD functions to it. It is called, simply, ISO Recorder and can be found here.

Thanks for the response, Lightning UK.

It's possible that, when I included the data in my original post, I had altered some settings.

As I mentioned, I have tried to burn to more than one type of disc, including CD-R, CD-RW and DVD.

I will try again, making certain that the settings are correct for the particular medium I'm using at the time I try.

Thanks, again.

That setting should be on 'AUTO'. It would never work burning to a CD in DVD mode, CD requires additional/different commands.

In fact, just reset the program back to defaults and leave it. Everything works just fine without you messing with it and nothing needs to be changed or a 'per media' basis.
