Hello and good evening

so i bought verbatim media with a burnspeed of 8x.

This is where my problems started, i used to burn xbox backups no problem with the old 2.4x ones

but the only store close by that sells these only have 8x now.

well any way, at first i tried to burn a backup, and failed right off the bat, destroying the media.

i did some reading and tried burning at 8x speed, it burned the first layer and then failed again.

i did MORE reading and realized i need to update my driver's firmware, so i did just that.

what happens now, is the burn proccess goes smoothly all the way trough, both layers burn without a problem, but then when its finalising the disk.....

Have you tried the other write speeds since updating the firmware?

You could try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc.

nope, burrning at 2.4x

Posted

Ok so give the other speeds a shot and try cleaning the drive.

allright, what speed should i try? im running out od media here :P

I 21:54:16 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-003-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

They're what the drive supports and you say you've already tried 2.4x. I'm sure you can work out what's left ;)

:S

well 8x just failed right away, i have 4 dvd's left, its Saturday, and i have a feeling that if 2.4x got to the end but couldn't finalize, and 8x failed before even starting... 4x and 6x chances are slim :<

what else can i do?

Posted

All of those speeds should be working fine if the drive and media are working as well and of the quality they should be.

I'd certainly give 4x a go.

Have you tried cleaning the drive yet? (as suggested several times already!)

You should give another spindle of discs a try. If you run into the same problems with those and cleaning the drive hasn't helped, invest in a new one.

i did clean my drive, forgot to mention it

any way, this is so annoying, i mean i can buy a new drive, but every thing worked perfectly before these 8x showed up and ruined everything for me =/

You could always try to buy some 2.4x Verbatims via the Internet, but if that's not an option and you're left with 8x Verbs or nothing, you may have no choice but to get another drive.
