nhoj Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 i am new to this and each time i try to burn iso file to disc i get i/o error at 50% i have tried a few times and get the same error message every time it is not just one file i have had this problem with so would be greatful if someone could let me know what i am doing wrong

You'd do well to stick with Verbatim 2.4x discs (MKM-001-00 dye). As they can be hard to get hold of now (the 8x MKM-003-00 have taken over!), you might need to invest in a new drive (keep that one for scanning though).

Did you try the firmware update as suggested? You know, visit the website, download the file, unzip it, run it, follow the onscreen instructions etc. I 14:32:37 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67) (Speeds: 2.4x) The discs you're using use the 'RICOHJPN-D01-67' dye. The 'brand' name stamped on discs doesn't mean anything, it all comes down to how they're actually made and the dye/MID (Manufacturer ID or Disc ID) they use. The ones you *should* be using use the MKM-001-00 (2.4x speed) or MKM-003-00 (8x speed) dye. AFAIK, only Verbatim uses those dyes so you need to buy yourself some Verbatim double layer discs. With your particular drive, you really need the 2.4x ones (MKM-001-00 dye) as I don't think the firmware handles the 8x (MKM-003-00 dye) very well.
