Have been using IMGBURN under WIN2000 for maybe 2 years. Awesome program.

Did many DVD backups with an HP drive.

4 or 5 months ago got a Pioneer DVR-117D.

Still working fine, no problems. Was very happy to discover in the last version that CDs are supported.

Made a couple of CD backups, no problems. Very convenient program for that.

Installed 2.5.1.0 a few days ago.

Will not read CDs. Says at bottom - "Device Not Ready (Incompatible Medium Installed)"

Tried same CD I knew to be working before. Also tried EAC, and it did not seem to read either.

Maybe something has gone funny with the drive?

DVDs still reading and writing fine.

appreciate any ideas....

thanks

Well, here is a clue:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/BusinessProducts/Blu-rayDisc+DVDWriters/Important:+Notice+Regarding+CD+Read+and+Write+Functionality+in+Certain+Pioneer+Computer+Drive+Models

So Pioneer says some of their older drives may become unable to read or write CDs.

They don't list the 117D in the notice, but it is listed on their giant list of "older model drives".

So I'll be getting another drive and I bet that fixes it.

Try a cleaning disc in the drive.

Are you trying to re-read backups or are the CD's you're putting in the drive original/pressed/silver ones?

Either way, it's a drive issue... but then you already know that.

Won't read factory pressed CDs. OK - I'll try a cleaning disc.

thanks

I believe that tls is experiencing the same "CD-read" problem I posted about on March 28. One of my disc drives is also a Pioneer (model DVR-115D). My other disc drive is a fairly new Atapi (model iHAP122 9). Both drives developed a "read" problem as soon as I updated to imgburn 2.5.1.0. My solution was to revert to imgburn 2.5.0.0 and the problem disappeared. This leads me to conclude that the problem is not with the hardware or the discs.

Paul, your problem is nothing at all like this one.

I sent you the beta version the other day for you to test. Have you done so?

The beta version of imgburn works perfectly on everything I have tried so far. In particular, it reads store-bought CD's, CD+r's and even CD+rw's on both my disc drives. It writes as expected. I have not tried anything with DVD's as yet. Thank you for this assistance and for the imgburn program, which I have shamelessly used for free for years. I'll be sending you a small gift as soon as I figure out how to work paypal. :)
