Burned DVD does not play fully

I just installed ImgBurn (2.5.1) & created my first DVD. However ran into multiple issues with that & the results were not entirely satisfactory. Brief description follows, followed by log.

I had first created a proper DVD Folder using DVD Flick & tested that with VLC to make sure that the source files are absolutely fine.

1. First of all ImgBurn complained that cannot lock drive. Using Process Explorer found that a process called DMAScheduler was holding on to the lock. Killed that. Now ImgBurn could lock the drive.

2. After that burning process went pretty smooth. Some details:-

HP PC, Drive:TSSTcorp_CD-DVDW_TS-H552L_0614_T, 2x Speed, Maxell DVD -R

3. After the burn for Verify ImgBurn tried to recycle & lock the drive again. Could NOT do so.

4. After that I opened the drive & closed that again. Did NOT RECOGNISE the disk at all.

---So no Verify

5. Played the disk on my home DVD Player. Played fine till first 20-25 mins. Then lots of freezing. Could not continue.

6. Tried to play with Windows Media Player on my laptop. Same issues though after maybe 35 mins.

So definitely the burn was not fully proper. Unfortunately could NOT Verify either as the process aborted. So not sure what is at fault ?

1. ImgBurn ?

2. Maxell DVD ?

3. Or the DVD Drive on my PC ? Note that PC is 4y old & I don't think that the drive has been upgraded

HP PC, Drive:TSSTcorp_CD-DVDW_TS-H552L_0614_

Could it that the driver needs to be updated ? If so, then how ?

Note that couple of weeks back I had created 3-4 DVD's using a s/w DVD Creator from Xilisoft. None of the DVD's came out fully well i.e. worked partly. Thats when I switched to DVD Flick-ImgBurn.

A simple test to see if the disc can be read is to use the read mode and just read it to the hard disk.

I would set the DMAScheduler to not autostart in Windows.

The media you are using is not also very common and that might be part of the issue. Your burner doesn't do a good job burning them. A try with 4x could be worth a try.

Funnily I can play the DVD fully back using VLC player installed on my PC (HP).

Does that mean that the disk got burnt properly but somehow my DVD Player is bad ?

Not sure why the Windows Media Player on my laptop (IBM) had issues.

So I agree with the fact that the media (Maxell -R, Single layer) I was using was not good.

Changed that & switched to another one. (Moser Baer +RW, Single layer). The burn seems to be somewhat better as I can play this DVD all the way through both on my DVD Player & also using VLC/Media Player on my PC. However this is the issue I cannot explain (& the same thing happened with the earlier disk also):-

If I put this disk back into the same drive on my PC it does not recognize/read that. Actually if you see the logs earlier the burn was completely successful with no errors. But then ImgBurn tried to re cycle the disk in order to Verify. As soon as it did that the drive no longer recognized the disk. However the disk seemed to have got burned perfectly as I can play that using the second drive on my PC (DVD ROM).

For reference I am using ImgBurn version 2.5.1.0 & the two drives are:-

I 20:47:38 -> Drive 1 - Info: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552L 0614 (E:) (ATA)

I 20:47:38 -> Drive 2 - Info: IDE-DVD DROM6216 HD08 (F:) (ATA)

I formatted & burned the disk (Moser Baer +RW, Single layer) using Drive 1. Now can't play using Drive 1 but can play using VLC/Media Player via Drive 2 & as well as with my DVD Player.

Is this a bug with ImgBurn version 2.5.1.0 & TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552L combo or is this still an issue with Media ?
