dvkej5 Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 HI KINDA NEW AT THIS WHOLE THING. I HAVE PUT IN A DVD-RW AND I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE AT THE BOTTOM THAT SAYS DEVICE NOT READY(FOCUS SERVO ERROR) CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!
Kenadjian Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 We probably can, but you have to stop shouting at us. please turn your caps off. Now to your problem, does your burner support -RW media? that's the first step. Right mouse click your drive and go to capabilities, you'll see in there if the media is supported.
kungfuhippie Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Hi, I have the same problem in my laptop, I have already checked and my drive is a dvd-rw and suports that media. Any help to rectify this problem would be great. Thanks
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Update your drives firmware or buy some different discs. The drive doesn't like the ones you're trying ot use.

Shamus_McFartfinger Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 A "focus servo error" pretty much means what you'd expect it to mean. The laser can't focus on the media. Throw a disk into the drive and select WRITE from the MODE menu. Now copy and paste the text from the right side window here. It'll look something like this: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D 1.21 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD-R Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 2,297,888 Free Space: 4,706,074,624 bytes Free Time: 510:40:38 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x Pre-recorded Information: Manufacturer ID: MCC 02RG20 Recording Management Area Information: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Book Type: DVD-R Part Version: 5 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 1 Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP) Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 0 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 It won't even get that far if the drive thinks there's no media in it. All you'd see is the top two lines. i.e. PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D 1.21 (ATA) Current Profile: Unknown
kungfuhippie Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I only get the first two lines matshita dvd-ram uj-850s 1.61(ata) current profile: n/a
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 You're just going to have to get some discs with a different dye. Your drive doesn't support the ones you're trying to use. You might also like to consider getting a decent external burner. (or a normal 'internal' drive but with an external usb/firewire case).
volvofl10 Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 as per LUK's post above , Matshita dont make what you call a "good" drive . theres several mentions of matshita drives on the forum, and none of them are good i'm afraid . go for the external approach like LUK mentioned
