LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Don't waste your time with 1x. For starters, it doesn't exist for DVD+R media, 2.4x is the slowest speed they support. Try burning at 8x, your drive might do a better job - slower isn't always better. Next time you buy discs, buy some decent Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden ones. The 'RITEK-F16-01' dye/MID isn't very good and the brand name (Memorex) means nothing.

It's the same error and I tried at 8x speed that time (using different disks by the way) I'm going to try one at 2.4x this time. I have a feeling it's these disks I bought =-=
ianymaty Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Don't be afraid to post the log of that burn. You should update Vista to SP2.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I 15:05:26 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: RITEK-F16-01) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x) Same discs. Remember, the brand name is irrelevant. You need to go by the dye / MID (Manufacturer ID) / Disc ID.
JesseD Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 I 15:05:26 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: RITEK-F16-01) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x) Same discs. Remember, the brand name is irrelevant. You need to go by the dye / MID (Manufacturer ID) / Disc ID. Oh, I didn't know they were un-usable I didn't go buy more, just different disks from the same package I bought. So could I get a link to the specific disks I need, or exactly what they're called? I don't want to buy the wrong disks.
mmalves Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Next time you buy discs, buy some decent Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden ones.
JesseD Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 That's not what I asked but thanks anyway I guess.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Verbatim only (*) use the MMC and TY dyes. Taiyo Yuden only use the TY dyes. So you can buy stuff with either of those brand names stamped on the packet and you'll be ok. All the other 'brand' names use various cheapo dyes and you never know what you're getting until it's too late. (*Verbatim seem to have started selling a 'value' range (not sure where in the world exactly or who stocks it) that use the CMC dye - avoid it) Try buying your discs online if possible. Most suppliers will list the dye/mid/disc id on their website so it's easy to know what you're getting.
