Not on disc

Recommended Posts

I have put a brand new disc in and first of all it says it has to format it and erase it even though it's already blank. It's a DVD-RW disc Sony. Also when I have written the file on the disc (an mpeg movie) it comes up saying completed. I put it in my stand alone dvd player and it says something about a disc you can't play on it so it doesn't work (I know the discs are fine as been using these ones for over a year on the same dvd player and not had a problem playing them before). I tried putting it back in the computer and windows media player says the disc is blank. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

When I start up imgburn I drag the mpeg movie and then click write disc (that's when it says it's not blank etc and needs formatting then it starts writing it). Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thank you :)

Ok, it would appear you don't know what you're doing :)

You've burnt a movie file as if it were a disc image file (ISO).... that's never going to work.

If you want to write normal files to a disc, you need to use 'Build' mode (aka 'Write files/folder to disc' or 'Create image file from files/folders')

Please note that ImgBurn doesn't convert anything so if you want that movie file to be playable on a normal DVD player then you'll need to convert it into a valid VIDEO_TS folder (with IFO/BUP/VOB files) first using something like DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD.

p.s. You're using DVD+RW discs, not DVD-RW. Brand new DVD+RW discs have to be formatted before you can write to them - otherwise the drive just errors out. This should only need to be done once.

Thanks so much for the help :)

I haven't a clue when it comes to things like this, if it's computers and the internet I am fine but new things like this takes me time to get my head around lol. Am trying again now, I'm sure I'll be back lol

You just burnt the mpg file didn't you :)

To quote myself from post 4...

Please note that ImgBurn doesn't convert anything so if you want that movie file to be playable on a normal DVD player then you'll need to convert it into a valid VIDEO_TS folder (with IFO/BUP/VOB files) first using something like DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD.

Lol, no I converted the mpeg file to DVD file with video converter so thought it had been changed, obviously doing something wrong somewhere. So sorry, takes me time to get my head around new gadgets lol.

The converter program should have left you with a VIDEO_TS folder somewhere containing IFO, BUP and VOB files. That's what you need to burn.

If you don't have all of those then either the conversion didn't work correctly or you're selecting the wrong thing.
