Looks fine to this point, right? At this point,the next step would be to say ok , but for purposes of trying to illustrate what is happening , I aborted. What will happen next is a total freeze of the entire PC.It stops responding and totally freezes up Windows 7 such that NOTHING will respond . You can't even Ctrl-Alt-Delete it. A hard reset of the PC is required to get back to normalcy.

That's usually caused by bad/old drivers or misconfigured SATA controller. Have you looked for the most recent chipset/storage drivers for your system? How is your SATA controller configured in the BIOS?

Yesterday and for 56 other previous perfect burns it was perfect. How could it change overnight witn no hardware or software changes?

I figured it out - BAD media. I tried a spare BD-RE i have lying around and it workrd perferctly. I had 4 bad discs in a row from the same cake! Go figure...
