Ah, you mean 'medium not present' then, not 'device not present' :)

What discs are you putting in it?

Can it see original / pressed CD-ROM discs? How about DVD-ROM discs?

yes sorry medium not present drawer closed it wont read any discs it is a month old i use ritek blanks

Just confirm that *any disc* really does mean *any* ?

I'm not talking about discs you burn onto, I mean things like original (silver) audio cd's you've got from a shop etc.

If it really won't read anything, take the drive back, it's developed a fault.

yes i mean any disc and pc keeps crashing with irq not equall and fault in non paged area google research point to faulty ram would you agree thanks for your time

Press F8 before windows boots and run the windows memory diag tool.

Or download Memtest86+ and use that.

You get a blue screen of death normally yeah? Does it not mention any driver names or anything?

You normally get a memory dump file too - that can be loaded into WinDbg (free from Microsoft) to see what caused the issue.
