LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Have you tried 2.4x and 4x ? Have you tried cleaning your drive with a cleaning disc? If possible, try with the 2.4x speed Verbatim discs too - MKM-001-00 dye rather than MKM-003-00. If all else fails, buy yourself a decent 'normal' (non slimline) drive. p.s. you should put SP2 on unless you have good reason not to. ImgBurn is out of date too.
CrazyHand Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) Have you tried 2.4x and 4x ? Yes Have you tried cleaning your drive with a cleaning disc? No If possible, try with the 2.4x speed Verbatim discs too - MKM-001-00 dye rather than MKM-003-00. I don't think amazon.co.uk have those. If all else fails, buy yourself a decent 'normal' (non slimline) drive. It came with my Laptop Is my drive no good ? p.s. you should put SP2 on unless you have good reason not to. (edit)Installing Now ImgBurn is out of date too. I have tried with the latest one same error and i read on a different post on a different forum that 2.4 fixes this. LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 It came with my Laptop Is my drive no good ? If it can't burn Verbatim DL discs, it's can't be that great, no. You'd have to double check it against discs from a different spindle of MKM-001-00 / MKM-003-00 to be sure though. How do i do this ? Well, Windows Update should take care of it really but maybe it got confused. You can get it from MS's website - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=a4dd31d5-f907-4406-9012-a5c3199ea2b3&displaylang=en Once it's installed, make sure you check for all updates using Windows Update. I have tried with the latest one same error and i read on a different post on a different forum that 2.4 fixes this. That's just what people who know nothing about burning say. The version of the program (or the program full stop!) doesn't make your drive any more/less likely to fail. You should always use the latest version as they always contain a million fixes from the previous version. Not only that, old versions aren't supported.
CrazyHand Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Okay so your final suggestion is that i should try with 2.4x verbatim DVD+R DL and 8X verbatim DVD+R DL ? P.s Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Yup. If it fails on both then you'll have to get another drive.
CrazyHand Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 I seem to have successfully burned a game. Could have installing SP2 have fixed this ?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Nope. The 'Write Error' should be coming directly from the drive... and the drive doesn't care which OS you're running, it just has to deal with the media you've put in it.
CrazyHand Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 So could it be that something was wrong with all the (8) DVDs i put in before cause the last 2 worked perfectly or is it my drive that can screw up sometimes ?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 It's impossible to answer that question. If it seems to be burning ok, just consider yourself lucky and hope it doesn't mess up again.
