Hello, I'm kinda new to the whole burning thing but I've been facing an error that's been winding me up a bit and wondered if I'd get any help here :)

Basically whilst burning a 360 game (I've tried burning two different games but the same thing always happens), each time it'll get to somewhere around 90% (normally 91-94%) and then an I/O error will pop up:

I can't seem to figure out why the burn will not finish - I've asked a real life friend to try burning the exact same image as I've tried using and it works perfectly fine for him, we also use the same blank dvd's to burn to.

Any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks.

The firmware is an internal program of the drive stored on a chip that controls the strategy to burn on various discs and formats. It's designed by the manufacturer and can be updated to support more strategy/discs than it stored at initial release.

Now I can't find any firmware update for your drive. All you can do is step by step following that guide to eliminate all posible problems.

In the end when nothing has worked (new firmware, cleaning the lens, other speeds, other MID/dye media) you need to replace that drive with a working one.

Oh, avoid slim/laptop burners as they are known as rubbish in general, especialy on DL discs, regardless of the manufacturer.

If you need to replace the laptop burner you better get one standard drive in an external enclosure.

Okay then. Well unfortunately for me, the burner I've been using is built in to the laptop :P I've tried cleaning the lens, using different discs and burning on several different speeds with no luck.

So I've considered purchasing an external driver, would you mind letting me know if this one is any good or not? Or recommending a decent one that I could get in the UK?

I'm not a fan of rebranded drives (which freecom ones are), that just looks like a LiteOn drive in an enclosure

You'd be better off buying an actual LiteOn so you can get the most recent drive and use proper firmware updates.

It might be more work at the buying stage (getting 2 items instead of 1), but you'll thank me when you want support (help/firmware) for the drive!
