HairyApe Posted December 26, 2010 Author Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) Sometimes I get this error in test mode with both AWS and 8x write speed. Sometimes it doesn't show. Edited December 26, 2010 by HairyApe
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Put that burnt disc back in the drive, load ImgBurn and switch to Read mode. Now copy + paste the disc info from the box on the right. Your drive is getting on a bit now. Maybe it would benefit from being cleaned by a cleaning disc or replaced.
HairyApe Posted December 26, 2010 Author Posted December 26, 2010 I threw three discs away. I put one of them back in the drive. In Read Mode, here is the info: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A 1.04 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD-RW Disc Information: Status: Complete State of Last Session: Complete Erasable: Yes Sessions: 1 File System Information: Sectors: 1,790,147 Size: 3,666,221,056 bytes Time: 397:50:47 (MM:SS:FF) TOC Information: Session 1... LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A 1.04 (ATA)Current Profile: DVD-RW . . . Track Information: Session 1... -> Track 01 (LTSA: 0, LTS: 1, LRA: 0) Ok so that's the problem here. Seems the drive didn't initialise the disc properly. It's returning the wrong 'Current Profile' and invalid/incorrect track info - LTS is 'Logical Track Size' and it should be saying 1790147 as that's how much you just burnt. Do you have another drive you could examine (do the same thing you just did) the disc in? Again, try and clean the drive with a cleaning disc, that might be all it needs. Are your discs branded as Taiyo Yuden or were they sold under another name?

Are your discs branded as Taiyo Yuden or were they sold under another name? I bought the drive in summer 2005. I bought the discs not too long ago around a few months ago here. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817294005 They should be DVD-R. I never used DVD-RW. I burnt 100s of discs with the drive. Would rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs work? I'm going to read the disc on another computer right now. I need to install the software, etc. I don't have a spare drive.
HairyApe Posted December 26, 2010 Author Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) On the other drive, the profile is read as DVD-R. It also recognizes that it's a Knoppix disc unlike my NEC drive. It's not my computer or drive but here's the read info. I guess my drive needs to be cleaned or replaced? HairyApe Posted December 26, 2010 Author Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) I put in a lens cleaner disc, and it worked. I didn't think they would work. See.
