Hello, after reading many posts and forums I still have no answer for my problem. I've waisted many DL disc already and can't seem to find out what exactly the problem is. Here it goes:

I already bought a new burner: Sony Optiarc AD7263S 24xDVDRW, I'm using Verbatin 8x DVD+R DL. Burnspeed max 2.4. I'm using Windows7. The subject that I'm burning are Xbox360 games which are patched with ABGX360. The menu in IMGBURN has been set to layer break setting L0 = 1913760. The burnproces is without any problem but IMGBURN does perform closing track and completly fails even after the command to abort burningproces (eventhough the log indicates that it received the order to abort). I need to close IMGBURN by using Taskmanager.

I've also tried using Nero 9.0  but also get the command: Could not perform closing disc.

I'm completly lost and need help.

Try the other speeds too, 2.4x is not even an option in your drive/firmware/media combination, so you left with 6x and 8x.

Don't tell us that you have to burn them at exactly at 2.4x. All you need is a good quality burn at whatever speed your combination can produce it.

Your hard disk is having trouble feeding the drive with data. Do you used it for other tasks while burning?

Thanks for your reply.

First of all I didn't come up with the writingspeed of 2.4 but that's the information that has been giving to me by several guides 'how tot burn Xbox360 Games'. It appears that faster burningrate wouldn't work.

The other tasks while burning are in the network (Synology NAS) so that shouldn't influence the performance of the pc.

Questions that remains is why both IMGBURN and Nero have trouble closing and finalizing the desk.

Hope to hear.

Writing at 2.4x is an old story back when there wasn't a big support for buffer underruns and is not actual anymore this days.

As I said, you need a good quality burn, the console or any other player don't know at wich speed was burn a particular disc.

It just plays it or not. You have to find out by trial and error what speed produces a good reliable or the best burn in your drive/firmware/media combination.

Not always but sometimes the hard disk activity can render in some timeouts that some drive's firmware can't handle well. In youre case was just a warning.

Thanks a lot ISF Guru, that solves the issue around the speed. Unfortunatly the closing disc issue remains. This problems is bigger then the speed of burning, because the discs exactly don't work at all at the console. Does anybody have an idea how this problem can be solved?!

Thanks

What type of machine do you have? AMD or Intel?

Is the drive connected to the proper AMD/Intel chipset controller or is it on a 3rd party one from the likes of JMicron/Marvell etc?

Hello,

I have a AMD Athlon 7450 Dual-Core processor 2.40GHZ 32 bits Windows Home Premium.

The DVD Drive is part of the pc, so I guess it's connected to the AMD chipset (not sure what you mean with that)

Thanks for the reply!

Out of interest, is it ok with single layer DVD+R discs?

If you have the exact same 'closing track' issue with Verbatim (MKM-001-00 or MKM-003-00) DL discs too, we have to assume it's something outside of the drive/firmware/media combo that's causing it to get stuck.

Do you know what motherboard you have in the PC?

All I can suggest is visiting the AMD (or NVIDIA if that's the chipset on the board) website and installing the latest chipset/controller drivers for your OS.

Funny thing is that after the closing disc/finalizing issue I get the following problem when I start up IMGBurn (see attachment ImgBurn2)I have to close IMGBurn by using Taskmanager  . When I restart my computer the problem is gone.

About your question if single layer has the same problem, the answer is no. But the program gets stuckt with cycling the tray. I included the log (ImgBurn3.log)

According to this ACER page you have nVidia chipset.

http://support.acer.com/us/en/product_support.aspx?tab=1

There is an option to find motherboards drivers by automatic in option 2.

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

GeForce 8200P / GeForce 8200P-A-AR -- Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your motherboard. No driver update is necessary at this time.

Any suggestions anyone?

Cynthia, I did update the Graphics Driver. I guess that doesn't make much difference on the performance of ImgBurn or any burningproces. I'm still stuck

Did the computer came with that burner pre installed?

Edit:

Saw that you bought if afterwards.

Have you tried to connect it to another SATA connector inside the computer?

Posted

No, I bought the burner this week after I had failures while using the original burner (Hitachi/LG GH40F). They Advised me to buy a new burner which I did and now the problem isn't while burning but with finalizing the disc.

Have you tried a lower write speed such as 8x? Could be that 20x is to high and the burn is that crappy that it can't be read.

Problem isn't with single layer but with DL.

This looks like an issue with single layer discs.

issue with old burner were I/O errors with sector problems, these were solved with the new burner. The issue isn't about the burningspeed anymore, there where I thought that a burning speed of 2.4 was mandatory for brning xbox360 games. The issue is about closing disc/finalizing which isn't working with dl discs.

The firmware of Burner, motherboard etc is up to date, the burner does burn SL (eventhough the speed in the topic is to high). I'm still looking to burn DL on my PC.

Tried again, no result:

Try in safe mode.

Try from an Ubuntu Live CD (install 'Wine' and then use that to install/run ImgBurn).

Try your drive + media in another PC - ideally, one with an intel chipset.

You could also try a 3rd party PCI/PCIe card (from Silicon Image or JMicron) and put the drive on that rather than the nvidia controller.
