Read error near layer break

I'm new to the forum. I’ve been using imgburn for about two months now. I’ve been burning disks since about 1998 with various different disks and software. I will say that img burn is probably the best burning software that I’ve seen. I have burnt several dvds with img burn successfully and sum unsuccessfully that were obviously my operator issues. The latest disk that I’ve tried to run the first copy burnt and verified successfully but the second one, at 50% verify got unrecoverable read errors. This has also happened with a few others. The only time I’ve got this error was with the DVD+R DL (RITEK-S04-66). The iso was generated with imgburn build mode and made with a “good” layer break.

My question is that, could the read errors come from the drive changing directions at the layer break during the write or the verify?

Your drive has no firmware support for RITEK-S04-66 media, it's just too old.

 

If you've burn any of those discs successfully, it was just luck.

Thanks for the reply. I tried the disk in a different drive and the verify was successful. I guess after 7 years it's time to retire the NEC 2510. Anyone have any suggestions on new burners? Don't have to be the latest and greatest, just something to give me the most bang for my buck.
