Erick_ImgBurn Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) Is the CD-RW scratched/heavily used before? No, new and scratch-free The image is Windows XP Home with SP3 Retail. Is the disc data copyrighted and that's causing the verify issue, or is it a bad burn? Just throwing that out there. Edited January 21, 2011 by Erick_ImgBurn
ianymaty Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'll say it was a bad burn. Your drive is old and the media is newer and not very well supported. Try with a regular CD not RW. Your ImgBurn is out of date btw.
kenbra Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I used a laser-lens cleaner, and this time the write process completed and didn't error out at 30% Complete. However, now I have another issue: while verifying the disc, ImgBurn reported a few unrecoverable read errors for sectors, at which point I canceled the process. I then transferred the disc to the CD-ROM drive, verified the disc again, and got the same error. The Windows XP setup dialog popped up after inserting the disc, though. Am I doing something wrong, or is it really time for a new burner? kevdriver Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Erick, You might want to try buying a couple of newer drives and perhaps getting some better quality media. Also its always the best to be running the latest release of imgburn for the best possible results.

I already use first-class Verbatim media and have tried different speeds and formats. My money's on the drive, but I need to be sure before I invest in a new drive. I'm only a version or two behind. Again, that's not the issue.
spinningwheel Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Erick, we do not support older versions. Update and post a log if it fails. spinner

Cynthia Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Looks more as the burner doesn't like the media used. A cleaning disc might help the SlimLine burner if there should be any dirt on the lens. Try with another brand of disc or a CDR. Replace the burner.
Erick_ImgBurn Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Good news. I just successfully burned, verified and tested a BartPE disc. That means this disc is good and the burner is okay, right? Still waiting for an answer about the verify errors with the Windows XP SP3 ISO.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It doesn't matter what you're burning, errors are errors. The drive has problems producing decent burns on those discs. You can change the discs and hope the drive does a better job on the new ones or you can change the drive and hope it does a better job on the current ones.

You can change the discs and hope the drive does a better job on the new ones or you can change the drive and hope it does a better job on the current ones. BLUK, I knew all that. I would just like to know if these errors are caused by a copyright protection on Windows XP? BartPE burned fine, so I hope that elimates the drive as the problem.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 No, it's not copy protection and so no, it doesn't eliminate the drive as the problem.
Erick_ImgBurn Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 That's it! I've had it with this piece of ish! I smashed it good with a hammer. Never have I had a computer device so terrible as this HP (NEC) DVD and CD-RW burner. I might have used it ten times in 7 years, and I've had nothing but problems with it from the first time I used it. I'm buying that Lite-On IHAP right now...
ianymaty Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I'm sure you will have less problems. Let us know how it work.
Erick_ImgBurn Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 I'm sure you will have less problems. Let us know how it work. The Lite-On tops that NEC in every which way. Not a read or write issue yet.
ianymaty Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Didn't I told you? Happily use it ever after.
Erick_ImgBurn Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Didn't I told you? Happily use it ever after. Yep, now to spend the next four years reading the ImgBurn guides. LOL
