Create ISO stops at 800 sectors, gives 0x02 SCSI error

I'm trying to create an ISO image of my children's Zoo Tycoon CD-ROMs, so they can play without the physical media. I have two different DVD drives and one BluRay drive--all three give me the same errors using ImgBurn v2.5.5.0.

I select "Create image file from disc" and change no other options. It successfully reads the first 800 sectors (1,638,400 bytes), with a good read rate, then the read rate drops to zero with multiple retries before finally displaying the following I/O Error:

ScsiStatus: 0x02

Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: BE 00 00 00 03 2C 00 00 01 10 00 00

Interpretation: Read CD - Sector: 812

Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 11 05 00 00 00 00

Interpretation: L-EC Uncorrectable Error

Any ideas? I've made sure the LightScribe service (for my HP drive) is not running, and that AnyDVD HD is not running. This is on a Windows 7 64-bit system with 8 GB of RAM and an AMD Phenom II X4 940 processor at 3.00 GHz.

I've tried manually selecting a lower read rate, and ensured the discs are clean. Both the Zoo Tycoon and the Zoo Tycoon Marine Edition discs do the same thing at the same sector. Could this be a copy protection issue?
