Chappy Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Hi again Totally new issue so starting a new thread. Got that BD-RE to format and burned the iso file, but during verify process I'm getting groups of consecutive LBA addresess that show a miscompare. Entire sectors, approx. 2044 errors per sector...IB says they're empty. Is this possibly due to a program setup issue, or a conflicting low level driver? Brand new drive so I can't see a dirty laser head, and my 1st burn with IB was flawless, except for my mistake with subtitle streams. I also extracted the stream from the iso and it's perfect, plays completely in WMP along with the menu stream and subs, so the image should be writable. Here's the logs, I tried this image twice so it's long. Any ideas? I 19:14:26 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! Cynthia Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 How is that "new" burner attached? In some odd non Intel/Nvidia supported SATA connector? Tried to switch SATA connector with your other burner that I presume works as it should? Another reason for mis comparable item in the verify stage might be faulty RAM memory.
Chappy Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Hi Cynthia Nope...no weird SATA controller involved. Standard board (Asus Commando) SATA port, INTEL controller. Concerning the RAM, that's truly a possibility, but not that either I don't believe. I use some fairly memory intense apps at times and if I was having issues with faulty RAM, they would certainly have failed at some point long before now. In fact with some apps I have the RAM handle all I\O instead of the HDD's for speed advantages...they would surely bork if the memory was bad. I'm still pondering my original problem with the initial formatting of this disk tho. With the GUI freezing like it did @8%, but then showing that it was done on a reboot, reinsertion of disc, I'm wondering if that could have a hand in this. I think I'm gonna try another BD-RE disc and see how that fairs. TY Cynthia Dave
ianymaty Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Make sure at least to be other than RITEK if possible.
Chappy Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Hi ianymaty LOL! Sure wish I could've, but that's the only RE's I could find at the time anywhere near here. I will be looking for some TY's or Verbatim (which I do like BTW) very soon, but I wanted to give this BR image a try, impatient bagger I am Anyway, tried another new disc last night, made a mistake but I thought I'd let Explorer format the disk and see what happened. Shite happened is what happened... IB now declared that there wasn't enough space on this "newly formatted" disc, and asked to erase it. It couldn't...again..sigh. Froze overnight @-17%. Tried to burn with PowerISO this AM, but it said the disc needed to be erased and then failed at erasing it, many attempts. Was HD-DVD media this buggy? I don't remember even DVD's being this buggy when they 1st arrived either, although they did have their moments too. Finally tried Nero 10 to erase the bloody thing and burn the image file, we'll see in about an hour if this one works. I hope we get BR media figured out and then say "Enough! Let's stick with this for awhile, no new formats please... " G-day matey! Dave Edited February 5, 2011 by Chappy
Chappy Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Now I remember why I hate Nero...total crap. Did it again with IB with no verify, and apart from about 20 seconds of pretty minor glitches at 20 minutes in, it worked fine. Again tho, I muddled the subs somehow and got 2 sets of english subs, the file's .nfo is confusing me as it says no hardcoded subs but it seems there is. anyhoo Question...it's the drive itself that's reporting these miscompares in the verify right? I mean, IB is only displaying what the drive sends back as it reads the sector info correct...so if I get allot of miscompares in the log, but the disk plays fine in my player, then somehow the drive is misreading or something...right? I'm wondering if there may not be an issue with the drive itself, or firmware. As a test, I tried having the drive play the movie in my PC but WMP said it couldn't play it because it doesn't recognize the formatting used, but if I navigate directly to the m2ts stream in the disk, it plays it fine. It also shows that disk in explorer as having 22.5G free of 22.5G. Now I AM getting confused. Do I need to RMA this drive maybe? BTW, Lightning UK, heres' that info you requested in the other thread. LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I'd try another dye/mid before thinking about RMA'ing the drive. Buy youself a Verbatim BD-RE and see how that goes. If it can't format that either, yes, RMA it.
Chappy Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Yah, suppose you're right. Wasn't gonna ship the thing back today or anything, but something's definitely not working right. Like, I'm no idiot, I was invited onto the W7 core beta team by MS engineers after my Vista beta work, and I decompiled and analyzed new unknown malware variants for AV companies as an independent for 9 years on my own dime. Also helped HijackThis and Adaware developers when they started out, and for years taught new HJT analyzers and Admin'd tech/security help sites so I can figure stuff out, but this is all new to me. I like to dig deep into things to see how they work, but I've got allot of learning to do yet about BR encoding...hope you guys/gals don't mind a n00b picking your brains for info sometimes. BTW, this last burn does have multiple glitches again, many areas where pixelation is pretty bad. After doing just some basic math, it seems the 1000's (before it gives up) of "Empty sectors" IB reports in the verify log would correspond (@1080p) to some swaths of pixels being unreadable and causing the small video glitches for a second or 2. So prolly the drive is reading correctly. I'm also getting pretty sick of watching this darn movie and the excruciatingly LONG time it takes to re-encode it every time I F'up the subs.... :& I need to get it right before I start looking for some wrist arteries to disect.
