rgutter Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 After years of flawless ImgBurning, I now encounter this problem on every burn on either of my drives. I've downloaded the latest version. I've checked for other processes holding the drive locked. I've removed suspect filters (and rebooted). I've cleared the Disable Media Change Notification flag. I've disabled AnyDVD. No go. Here's a recent log: I 17:29:17 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 There are newer versions of SiRemFil.sys and AnyDVD.sys available (by updating drivers / the application). I've cleared the Disable Media Change Notification flag You can change that back now, it isn't the problem. Is your installation of DAEMON Tools up-to-date? Do you have the latest SPTD installed? You could try uninstalling your IDE/ATAPI controllers (Note: Not the 'channel' entries, they'll go anyway) from within Device Manager and rebooting.
rgutter Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Is your installation of DAEMON Tools up-to-date? Do you have the latest SPTD installed? Since I had the latest version, I decided to uninstall Daemon, thinking that would also delete the SPTD driver. (It didn't, so the SPTD warning remains.) Rebooted and tried gain, without any luck. Since I had the Elaborate Bytes filter there too, I decided to take a "always suspect MS" approach and switched the I/O interface from SPTI to Elby CDIO. Success! Thanks for your help, and of course for the software. Richard
Cynthia Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 You need to run the installer and check the option for uninstall if you want to get rid off the SPTD driver. http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Switching to ElbyCDIO makes the program stop issuing that command - as it only applies to SPTI. So basically, you haven't fixed anything.
rgutter Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 Ok, so my balloon is burst. But - wasn't the invalid handle message spurious anyways? As I said, when I ignored the couldn't lock message ImgBurn would always flawlessly burn the disc - obviously it had obtained a valid handle. Is your thought that at that point the device isn't really locked and that down the line some process may screw up the burn? (I'm not usually the pragmatic type, but having put a lot of hours into this I have to admit I'm tempted to either live with an undiagnosed base problem that has no operational effect, or to wait until an OS refresh to see if that has any effect.)
rgutter Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 You need to run the installer and check the option for uninstall if you want to get rid off the SPTD driver. http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads Thanks - I'm pretty sure it was installed as part of the Daemon Tools installation, so I had naively assumed DT would clean up after itself.
Cynthia Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Looking at older posts, it's usually something in the filter driver list that is causing the warning message.
rgutter Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 I'm pretty sure you're right. On reflection, it was likely that the problem was triggered when I changed the SI driver to work around an unrelated issue my system starting exhibiting. I'll test this out later this week and report back - thanks for your input.
