spenser Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Hello, I´m trying to burn an .iso file to a Pioneer burner BDR-206 using a Sony BD-RE DL 50 Gb disc. My system is running Windows 7 Ultimate. I´ve tried to do it three times but always I´ve found the same problem. After completing more or less 54% of the task, the burning stops. After a while I receive the following message: - I/O error. Device Pioneer BD-RW BDR-205 1.05 - CDB: AA 00 00 B4 74 00 00 00 00 20 80 00 - Interpretation: Write (12) - Sectors: 11826176-11826207 - Reason : the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Even after canceling the task and shutting down ImgBurn the driver light continues on and I cannot eject the disc. To do that I have to reboot the computer. Really I´m at a loss although I´ve some suspicion about the program or the disc having some problem with the layer break. My only reason to think that way is that the program always stops more or less at the site where the break could be located and works normally until it reaches that point. But I confess I´m new at blu-ray burning (actually that was my first attempt)and I could be missing lot of things. This is the log: I 02:38:11 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Your drivers are causing the problem here. What controller is the drive connected to?
spenser Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks for your prompt reply ! The drive is connected to a SATA controller, Intel ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller. I´ve looked for a newer drive in Device Manager/Update Driver Software/Search Automatically, but Windows response it´s that the best driver for my device is already installed.
mmalves Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Install the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and try again.
spenser Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks, I´ll do it and I´ll post the results. But I´m doubtful about something. The link you provided took me to a page with TWO available downloads. In spite there´s a link (What File Should I Download?) that apparently gives a response to my doubts, regretfully that link doesn´t seem to be working. I don´t know if you could make a suggestion but if you can it would be really very helpful because I´m afraid to damage my system if I choose the wrong one.
Cynthia Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 One of the downloads is in English. If you want the multilingual (you want to see what happens during the installation in French/Chinese/Swahili) select that one instead.
spenser Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Ooops ! II think I´ll pass the Swahili.

spenser Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Well, after repeated failures I´ve decided to try something different. I tried to burn an smaller iso file (less than 25 Gb) on the same Verbatim BD-RE DL that I´ve used before. The burning failed but the important fact it that it stopped at exactly the same point that had stopped the previous re4cordings. In other words:_ in all the cases the burning stopped after writing 11826176 sectors or 24.220.008.448 bytes. I guess that means something (problems when it bagins to write the second layer ?) but regretfully my knowledge about BD burning is almost nil. Could someone please give some idea ? I would really appreciate it. This is the new log: I 22:07:20 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! spenser Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) Just in case someone find a problem like mine, and trying to be helpful, here is the situation so far: 1. I´ve no problems burning BD-R 25 Gb. Previously I thought I had, but it was a video player software problem. The disc was right. 2. The problem arises when trying to burn double layers BD-RE 3. The failure always occur at the same point (58% of the task completed; size: 24.220.008.448 bytes) 4. Roxio software also fails to fulfill the task. So ImgBurn is not to be blamed. 5. I´ve the latest drivers and firmware installed 6. Previous to the burning I can play the blu-ray folder and files on my computer. So, the input is right. 7. The failures always happened using BD-RE DL media. I´ll buy some BD-R DL to see what happens -that´s becoming expensive!- 8. At that point I´m almost absolutely sure that´s a layer break point problem. I haven´t the slightest idea about how to fix it but I´ll continue trying to find out. Edited March 5, 2011 by spenser
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 None of the errors you're getting are from the drive itself so your problem still lies with the controller / drivers. Are you 100% it's on the Intel controller and not a 3rd party (e.g. JMicron) one? Do you even have such a controller? If you do, try the drive on that instead. Do you have the option in your motherboard BIOS to disable RAID/AHCI mode and just use standard ATA for the controller?
spenser Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 (edited) Thanks for your help No option in the BIOS to disable both of them. It´s RAID or AHCI. According to the Control Panel info I´ve an IDE ATA/ATAPI Intel controller and a IEEE 1394 Host Controller JMicron. If I understand correctly you´re saying that if the BD drive is connected to the Firewire controller I ought to switch it to the Intel controller ? Please forgive my question but my knowledge on this matter is limited as surely you´ll have realized. By the way, today I tried to burn the same input to the same BD-RW DL media using Nero Burning ROM. No failure, no error message, the task was completed successfully. I can watch the video. But if I switch to an scene more or less close to the end of the video after one or two seconds the image freezes and I cannot go on. Edited March 6, 2011 by spenser
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Any chance you could load up Device Manager, expand the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers' branch and the 'Storage Controllers' branch (ensuring they're both visible at the same time) and take a screenshot? Do you know what motherboard you've got? There are probably some make / model / version details written on it if you whip the side of the case off.
spenser Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Attached the requested information. Thanks for your help !
spenser Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 Hi, I don´t want to become a nuisance but I´haven´t found any help outside this Forum. First of all I would like to know if Lightning UK´s request for screenshots is fulfilled. In case I missed something please let me know and I´ll post it. I also want to tell about as new development. Today ImgBurn failed to burn a DVD9 disc. That´s a first time because before the problems only arose when using BD 50 Gb media. Until today I had no problems burning ISO's to BD25, DVD9 or DVD4. But the error message is very similar to the previous one. So I think that maybe someone could find some clue about what´s happening. Here´s the log: I 12:50:03 Operation Started!
